DOES BEING AN EXTREME METAL VOCALIST CAUSE WRINKLES?
  • I READ ON HERE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS CAUSE WRINKLES AND SINCE I ENJOY SINGING EXTREME METAL, I WONDER IF IT WILL CAUSE WRINKLES, SINCE PART OF THE ART IS MAKING MANY CONTORTIONS OF AGONY. NOT THAT I CARE ABOUT WRINKLES JUST WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, AND IT COMPARED TO OTHER SINGING LIKE SAY OPERA.
    EXAMPLE:

  • Very interesting question! I'm afraid I've never seen any data suggesting that singing one type of music (Metal versus Opera) will create more wrinkles than another but I watched the video and I'd be worried that all that hair spinning could cause traction alopecia (a form of balding.)
  • I am also a metalhead, I would say just look at all the vocalists that have been doing it for so long like Dave Mustaines face for instance, he has lining on his face now and it does not look like just the ordinary lines you get with age, at least to me I think its from his singing. I think its just part of the business. I wonder if singers in general get wrinkles from it. I am also more surprised than I should be that doing the windmill can cause balding. I have read about some doctors saying that you shouldnt headbang because it damages your neck but I also wonder how much is just speculation I mean its not like it has a lot of respect from anyone other than the fans. Most people in metal bands have massive necks from headbanging like Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse.
