Saline Solution in Mascara

Ok, so I read the article about how you shouldn't put water in cosmetics, like mascara, because that will dilute the preservative mixture and allow bacteria to start growing. But what about saline solution? Is the preservative mixture (assuming there is one) in it going to help keep bacteria out of the mascara tube?

Even saline can disrupt the normal preservative system of most cosmetics.
