Nivea Creme: Lets hear it.
  • Hello all,

Just wondering what Nivea "Creme" is. I have heard that it was the first modern moisturizer, so it must have something going for it... I have been using Vaseline (petrolatum) as a whole-body moisturizer and was wondering if Nivea Creme would be more effective. How does it compare to petrolatum's TEWL rating? Thoughts? Comments? Thanks!
  • Here are the ingredients:
Water, Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Petrolatum, Glycerin, Microcrystalline Wax, Lanolin Alcohol, Beeswax (Apis Mellifera), Panthenol, Alcohol, Magnesium Sulfate, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Aluminum Stearate, Fragrance, Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

I'd guess this would almost, but not as good, as pure petrolatum when it comes to reducing Trans-epidermal Water Loss
  • Yeah that makes sense. Guess I'm sticking with the old fashioned "rod wax." Thank you for getting back to me! I appreciate your help.
  • I love Nivea!

Okay, the formula that comes in the navy blue with the pump, that OVER top Vaseline is AMAZING, idk why, but it is. The formula alone or under Vaseline is not woth mentioning.

**Also, the "soft" formula that comes in the small, white, round, plastic jar is pricey for the amount (6-8 dollars) but it is AMAZING; Ive never layered it with anything and I hate to run out of it.

For refference, I have dry skin on my body. (But not face, this has always made me wonder).

Of course, Vaseline over shower water topped with some nice cotton pjs is always a treat too. :)

  • Some people go on about how the German version is sooo much better. Wonder if anyone else has heard the raving.
  • Good point Rozy. I have heard that too. To me, Vaseline is just simpler and can be used in so many applications. Plus, I think it is the most effective occlusive (highest TEWL rating). Less is more.
  • I have psoriasis and vaseline works every well for my skin though i use "real" lotion too... even when i just use vaseline it does my inflamed skin wonders
  • I've been using nivea creme for about six months now. I used to buy expensive brands but realised that I've been dupped.  I remember my nan using nivea.  I also use Astral which is another product here in the UK.  Both are really good basic creams.  I cleanse with astral.   Nivea a little heavier.  I don't think there is anything bettern than a thick layer of nivea on your feet at night - following morning they are like new!  I don't know anything about the differences.  the ingredients are here http://www.nivea.co.uk/products/NIVEA-Creme
