How is this cheek stain preserved?
  • I see no parabens listed in the ingredients of Tarte cheek stain, so I was wondering how it is preserved and if these chemicals are as effective as parabens. If they are not as effective does that mean this product has a shorter shelf life than products with parabens?

PS- Is there anything so special about this that makes it worth 30 bucks?
  • Interesting question because there are no traditional preservatives here. The first ingredient is propylene glycol which make be keeping the water activity so low that the product won't grow any bugs, I'm not sure. (Also the Nonyl Nonoxynol-150 may have some preservative properties.)

Also it looks like the package may prevent you from actually touching the product which helps reduce chances of contamination. Hopefully the company has done proper preservative challenge testing to prove it's safe!
  • But wouldnt you touch it to your cheeks to put it on?? Hands would be even worse for touching it I'm sure.
  • If anyone is interested mark makes a very close dupe for way cheaper: http://shop.meetmark.com/product.aspx?pf_id=30489&pdept_id=483&dept_id=490
  • Wow that IS a lot cheaper. I have used tarte cheek stain before. It feels sticky after you put it on. My issue was it didn't 'stick' around long enough to wear through the day well enough with oily skin. It never changed color or smelled 'off' in any way though.

The other issue I had with it was the plastic cap cracked and broke even though I was careful with the package. The company actually sent a brand new cheek stain to replace it when I contacted them and asked if it were possible to buy a new cap for the one I had.  :)
  • That was cool of them.
