Is butyl alcohol the possible drying kind of alcohol?

    Yes, it's a short carbon chain liquid solvent not a long carbon chain fatty alcohol/moisturizer. 

    It's not commonly used in cosmetics, can you point me to where you found it?  I'm curious about the application.

    I've only ever seen it used in Nail polish and removers.

    Right Brain: TKS! In this moisturizer from Shiseido. I don't believe in this formula the butyl alcohol can dry out the skin but I was curious anyway:

    It has a new ingredient called Piperidine Propionic Acid. Seems a bit interesting...:

    Anyway, I don't know if the butyl alcohol has anything to do with this ingredient. Maybe was used to solubilize it?

    I also found a patent where they cite butyl alcohol but I don't know if in this case this alcohol has something to do with the patent:
