Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Define & Hold Creme: It is Less Damaging than a Holding Spray?
  • How does this product work?

    Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, VA/Crotonates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer,
Triethanolamine, Dimethiconol, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride,
Ceteth 20, Fragrance, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Iodopropynyl
    Butylcarbamate, Silk Extract

What is VA/Crotonates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer? Is it related to vinyl as we/most consumers know it?

And, is this formula less drying/damaging than a holding spray?

  • Oh, and does anyone have any tips for healthy hold? I'll even settle for 'healthier than most solutions', it does't have to be all DIY... :)
  • VA/Crotonates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer is a holding polymer - that's what makes it work for the most part. When you ask about drying/damage are you talking about from the alcohol in hairspray? That evaporates quickly and doesn't cause much of a problem.

Also, "vinyl" is just a chemical term to describe part of the molecule.  VA/Crotonates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer has the vinyl part part of the molecule and so does the plastic type of "vinyl" you're thinking of from other applications. It doesn't mean that this hair cream contains chopped up car seats or anything like that.
