Is it really bad to sleep with makeup on??
  • Most, if not all,  of us have been told that going to bed without washing our face is one of the worst things we can do for our skin.  I've read that our skin heals and re-balances at night, and that sleeping with makeup on can interfere with that rejuvenation process and cause premature aging, large pores, acne and wrinkles. There was even an article about this on Yahoo news today.   I want to know Beauty Brains - is there any science behind these claims??  I've never seen any!  All I know is, I sleep with makeup on every night - and my skin has never looked better!
  • Great question, do you happen to have a link to the Yahoo article?
  • I've read that on pretty much any site and magazine everywhere.
  • Despite what it says in this article on futurederm I read the skin doesnt really have to "breathe"
  • I have been trying to find that article for you Right Brain - but they must have pulled it!!  Sometimes articles on Yahoo vanish without a trace, and it's weird.   If I can manage to find it I'll post it here.

Rozy is right though with "I've read that on pretty much any site and magazine everywhere." lol!  Its true!!!
  • It's always easier to respond to statements from specific sources because I can quote them exactly. But I'll poke around and see what I can find out.

  • Use mine it seems pretty fear mongery
  • That is a great article Rozy.  Sums up everything I've ever heard about sleeping with makeup on!   Still can't find the Yahoo one.  So strange how it disappeared.
  • Same question, but about sunscreen: If I wash my face and apply sunscreen this morning, then don't wash my face before bed, will the sunscreen still work tomorrow? It seems wasteful to apply expensive sunscreen every morning, then wash it off every night.

Futurist prediction: Every three months we will go to a clinic to get semi-permanent sunscreen applied, spray-tan style.
  • Sorry but sunscreen does "wear out" and needs to be reapplied.

Futurist prediction: tell me where I can buy stock in the semi-permanent sunscreen company.
  • No way the future is in sunscreen pills they even have an article on it!
  • @ Rozy - And I, for one, am looking forward to the 'sunscreen in a pill' that is supposed to be coming soon.  Because as Right Brain pointed out, sunscreen does 'wear out' and needs reapplied. With chemical sunscreens you need to reapply every 2 hours. The physical block stuff doesn't wear out as quickly but it does still need to be reapplied every 3-4 hours (if I understand it correctly). Reapplying is a pain. Especially on the face if you are wearing makeup.  :P
  • Defintely people think I am nuts when I tell them but I'm actually not for once I am excited for them too of course we can antipcate the anti-everything people complaining and saying 'oh gawd another pill??' 'oh gawd this isnt safe!!!!11!' and 'the medicalization of natural thing such as sunshine' etc but they can hate and we will be able to enjoy a useful product i find reapplying annoying too
