What kind of product is John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer?
  • This stuff works really well at doing what it's supposed to do. It flattens out flyaways without leaving anything heavy or sticky behind, and they stay in place all day. But $7-9 for 0.5 fl oz seems a little steep. I was thinking that I could refill the container (which is like an extra large mascara tube) with something else once I use it up. But I can't figure out what would work like this! It's thicker than hairspray, but it's not sticky like gel or liquid gel. Any ideas?
  • Here are the ingredients:
Water, PEG 12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium 55, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Polyquaternium 11, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Tocopherol.

It so happens that Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze product has essentially the exact same ingredients:
Water, PEG 12 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium 55, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Polyquaternium 11, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Tocopherol.

The Full Repair product sells for about $7-9 per 0.5 ounce (or about $16 per ounce) but the Color Glaze product costs about $6.00 for a 6 ounce bottle which makes is $1 per ounce.

One word of warning: I've seen 2 or three different version of this online. Make sure you get the clear one and the one that has the same ingredient list. Here's a link to Meijer's site where I found it:

  • Wow, that is great, thank you!
  • Do you mind if I post this information on my blog with a link back to The Beauty Brains? I think it would be interesting for my readers.
  • Of course, Lyn. And feel free to post a link to your blog in this thread as well.
  • When I google that ingredients list, everything that comes up is the Flyaway Tamer, except for that one link from Meijer. Do you think that the Meijer listing might have the wrong ingredients listed? Amazon has the same packaging, but a different list of ingredients. I'll check boxes the next time I find one in a store, but I wondered what your thoughts on this might be.
  • Hmmm. That is strange. It could be that the product has been discontinued and Meijer is just selling out their stock. Or it could be an error in the ingredient list on Meijer's site.

If you can't find this one, look for other products with at least the first two or three ingredients and that should get you pretty close. I did a quick Google search and didn't see any right away, unfortunately.
  • Thanks! I will keep an eye out.
