How do you organize your makeup?
  • I've never come up with a good way to organize and store my makeup. I have a train case but it takes up a lot of room and doesn't hold as much as I'd like. Currently, I'm using a canvas organizer for craft stuff. It's a good size and fits nicely under the counter but everything gets all mixed up, which makes it hard to find what you're looking for. Brushes are also tricky, I can't leave them out because they'll become cat toys. I pulled out the products that I don't use that often and put them in my "overflow box" but now I need a way to organize the products that I use regularly.
So, how do you organize you stuff and what do you store it in?
  • I don't have a system either.  My bathroom is way toooo cramped, so things are sorta spread all over the place.
On the dresser, I have a plastic kabuki box and a small mini plastic drawer thing.  Those hold items that's currently not in rotation.
In bathroom, in a small box to the left of the sink, and in a big travel cosmetics bag that hangs from the door hook, holds everything in rotation.  It's all just there.  In a small cup to the right of my sink holds everyday use brushes.  In a small cosmetics bag that's currently in my gym bag, it holds the everyday everyday must use items, but if I don't have it, I have enough of similar products in the box and big travel bag in my bathroom to achieve same/similar results.
In purses and bags everywhere - lip glosses.  Some have been used only once, or never opened at all.
Can you tell I'm not a very organized person?  Heehee... it's my WORST trait ever.  My sister and I used to fight all the time because we shared a room, and I just could not keep it organized.  Now my husband nags me every, single, day.  In fact, he's surrendered the bathroom over to me because of all my junk.  He only brushes his teeth and pees in there now.  But yea..... I need help too!!
  • I used to have a big train case that for it's ginormous size hardly fit anything. I would take it out everyday and do my makeup and have to move it if my boyfriend came in to use the bathroom. Sooo... that was not the best set-up. So then I decided I was going to take the entire top drawer in my bathroom for my makeup. We went to the container store and bought this GREAT kit. It's these plastic pieces that you measure and cut to the size of your drawer and little sticky slots to glue to the sides of the drawer. It took 5 minutes and is completely removable. I made 5 sections: 1 for eyeshadows, 1 for other eye makeup like pencils and such, 1 for lip products, 1 for face products, and 1 for brushes. It's great. It takes up only 1 drawer and fits waaaaaaaaaay more than my giant train case did. And all I have to do is pull the drawer open and everything is right there. And then if my boyfriend comes in, I don't have to put my train case away. All I have to do is close the drawer!

Ok, I took a pic of my drawer and was going to post it, but can't figure out how to do it.
  • I use the drawer organizer too. I picked it up at an office supply store. It keeps it all organized, and comes out for easy cleaning. Lotions and foundation are in the medicine cabinet.
  • Oh, Purple: my mess sounds just like yours....   I could never post a picture of it!
    Thanks for ideas, everyone.
  • I bought this super inexpensive three drawer desk to put all of my make-up in a few weeks ago.  I don't have shelving under mu bathroom sink and between the tampons, make-up, ponytails and lotions it gets pretty gnarly under there.  So I was sooo stoked about this system I got it from Home Depot when I went to buy paint..I got home and organized my make-up in the top drawer, ponytails and brushes in the middle and the ever so dreaded tampons/pantyliners/whatever else is needed for that *most amazing* time (i.e. Midol) and was so damn proud of myself for this wonderful organization and I went to put it under the sink and wouldn't you know.......it certainly doesn't fit because the sink pipes are right in the middle...so now I have to get a smaller one or come up with a different system...so so sad.  Then I just took everything out and left it right in the middle of my small bathroom floor....most of it is still there...except the make-up because I have since used it..... and the tampons because I have used those since....the cat likes the ponytails to play with....it was suppose to be motivation to figure something out...Ha!
