What beauty treatyment WOULD you undergo?
  • What treatments have you had done or would you consider having done? I've had microdermabrasion and was thrilled with the results. It was a series of 8 treatments of microdermabrasion followed by a lactic acid application, done a week apart. I couldn't believe how good my skin looked and felt afterwards. Even my husband noticed, and that's saying something.

I don't know what category this really belongs under. I put it under Controversial Topics because the "What beauty treatment would you NEVER ..." discussion was there.
  • Oooh I've been wanting microdermabrasion for years!! I really hope it'll get rid of my old blemish scars and smooth out my skin.

At times I want a nose job, just to make it a TEENSY bit narrower, but I don't think I can handle the pain of that.

Maybe in the future when I'm older, I'll consider botox or whatever is in the market when I'm 35. I'm hoping that my "Asian" genes would help me look young though.. hahahahahaha
  • This is really sad, but I've never had a manicure or a pedicure that I didn't do myself. I'd just rather spend the money on books and music. Maybe one day I'll get one...
This isn't really a treatment. I'm on medication that's slowed down my metabolism. Then, I was in an accident a couple of years ago that immobilized me for about 4 months. Anyway, I've been working really hard to lose the extra weight and I'm having a really hard time. I'd love a personal trainer or something to help me get rid of this weight.
  • I would love to have my teeth whitened, actually. A personal trainer would do nicely too!
  • One that I've had that was totally worth the money is laser hair removal. Sorry if this is TMI, but I've done my bikini line and am in the middle of treatments for my underarms. Love it. It hurts a little and it's not cheap, but the results are worth it. I've got a free micro-dermabrasion session coming up from purchasing my laser package that I'm super excited to try. I'd also consider laser skin resurfacing or something similar, to reduce redness and improve texture.

I've definitely had times where I coveted a nose job, but I don't think I will ever get one. I'm too wimpy, plus I'd be so afraid it would go horribly wrong and I'd wind up with a freakish Michael Jackson nose. Ech!
  • lasik and zoom whitening if I could afford either.
  • ooooh yea! teeth whitening! I'm a smoker and coffee/tea drinker, so my teeth are yicky. I know I know.. I shouldn't smoke, but it's really a hard habit to kick, and I'm not mentally strong enough at the moment to kick the habit. :(

I also want to try thermage in the future. My sister had thermage done on her underarms (you know, the area that waves back to you when you wave), and it helped quite a bit. She had originally had lipo done in that area, so her skin became all loosey goosey and saggy. She said the office manager of her doctor's office also had thermage done on her neck (or face), and it looks really good and natural.
  • For the most part I really like the way I look....and so does my husband. I have never wanted anything physical done to my body. I think
I would feel like I was losing a part of me. Although I do think I want lasik. My husband loves my glasses....thinks I look like Lisa Lobe, but let him wear glasses for 22 years and see how he feels.

I'm afraid of teeth whitening because I have such sensative teeth and I don't want them to hurt anymore than they already do.

Sometimes I want to be taller, but I'm REALLY not willing to go through that process.

Moxiehart: I love manicures and pedicures, but I REALLY like to spend my money on books and music too :)
  • Moxiehart: I love manicures and pedicures, but I REALLY like to spend my money on books and music too :)
LoL, my priorities are so messed-up. I'll be happy if I can have books/movies/cd's, and then food if I have a little extra. Bad, bad habits.
I forgot about Lasik--that's the laser eye surgery, right? I've had glasses since I was 8 and I'm 24 now. Contacts frighten me, so I have a really cute pair of glasses by DKNY. I'm just kind of sick of having to depend on something to see properly. Plus, people can be really rude. I think my glasses make me look chic and unusual, but when I take them off, I can be guaranteed someone will say, "You're so pretty without your glasses, why don't you get rid of them?" So, am I ugly with them? Rude!
  • I had Lasik last February, after wearing glasses for 30 years. Ironically, this was just in time to start needing reading glasses; but at least I don't need to *wear* my glasses in order to *find* my glasses like I did before the surgery!
  • I've had my hair thermal reconditioned and love it! I wake up with straight hair every day now:) It used to be frizzy.
  • I'd like Lasik too. Glasses and contacts are a pain.
  • You know, I'd love to get my hair permed into loose curls, but I'm not willing to do that much damage to my hair.

My hair is stick straight, and it takes an hour to get those waves for me with a curling iron. Hot curlers and velcro rollers have never worked for me. When I put them in I end up with voluminous- but still straight- hair within minutes of removing them.
  • Life isn't fair: It takes me an hour to get my loose curls stick-straight!
  • well girls...I've had a lot....I regularly get botox between my brows and around my eyes...I get radiesse in my n/l folds...right now I have a small amount of juvaderm in my upper lip just at the top.........I got breast implants 2 years ago, liposuction of the outer saddlebag area of my thighs...and got a tummy tuck! Am I happy with everything???? Absolutely!!! My body looks more like it did before I had children! I nursed 3 babies....and had 3 big babies....they wreaked havoc with my body...I've finally got it back and would do it all again in a second!!!! Very worth the pain! My only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner!!!!!!!!
  • I've had a glycolic peel, which was fantastic! As far as what I would do...

Lasik scares me too much. MAYBE if I got brave I could get the bladeless kind. Otherwise, yikes! Stay away from my eyeballs! I'd love to get my teeth whitened and maybe get those Invisalign things to finally straighten my front teeth (I had the worst orthodontist ever – I have two capped teeth because he broke them in half removing my braces). And if we're getting REAL drastic, I wish there was some way to lift my cheeks. I have cheek fat that makes it look like I have jowels, and it makes me look older than I am. I hate my cheeks.
  • I've had really bad luck with perms. I never got curls; I just got frizz. I would spend more time styling my hair and it wouldn't look as good when I was done. Last time, I wound up cutting it all off after 2 months because I couldn't stand it. I wouldn't risk it especially if you have long hair. You'll be living with the damage for years
  • I had perms from the time I was 10 until I was 16. I have straight straight straight hair. It's amazing that I have nice hair still cause it was the horrible, horrid 80s and early 90s. When I was 16 I cut it out and have never done another one since. It's funny because people see my school pictures and then see my super straight hair now and just laugh.

I remember one perm I had in 7th grade. Oh my goodness. I had the perm just before school started and of course you can't wash your hair for a few days. So, here it is the first day of school and my 72 hours wasn't up. I went to school with the biggest frizziest hair that would make Don King look clean cut. I was already this shy, stick skinny girl with coke bottle glasses and a head that was way to big for my body. Oh and I got teased so much....I hated middle school, high school, catholic elementary school all of it I hated. But I digress...but not really because in art class that day the meanest girl in the school would not leave me alone and teased me all class. I imagine she flunked out sometime between 7th and 9th grade because I never saw her after that. Perms suck:fierce:
  • Let's hope that 80s hair never returns.

I was watching 10 Years Younger reruns on Monday and one of the women had thermage for her jowls. The improvement was dramatic. I don't know how much it costs or how long it lasts but the short-term results were impressive.
  • Let's hope that 80s hair never returns.--unfortunately I see girls all over Philly with 80s hair and clothes...
  • I had LASIK done one year ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. I'd gone to GA to visit a girlfriend and it was a pain in the butt swapping glasses to sunglasses, back and forth, in that glaring, blaring GA sun. So last August I had it done at Beach Eye Care (Va Beach). I did that intralasik (sp) version with no blade. I was prescribed a nap and a series of eyedrops for a week. No make-up for a week (ACK!). I had it done on a Friday and was back at work Monday. I wore polarized sunglasses because the glare of the computer screen and overhead lights was a killer. BUt it's awesome to not scrounge for glasses to watch TV or read books.

There wasn't any real pain. I was more wigged out by the machine clamping down on the eyecup. When the procedure's underway your vision blurs and goes gray, like you're in a tunnel. It was totally psychological. The doctor said, "Hermione, are you okay? You're looking rather white." I said I was fine, just a bit wigged out. I'll tell you what...to wake up the next morning and see things clearly was overwhelming! I started crying from happiness.

PurpleRain...80's hair, yikes! I was looking through some old pictures and I could've sang back-up vocals for BonJovi...I was rockin' the big-frizzed-out hair in 1988! I thought it was short but it was half-way down my back! I typically wore it in a trusty banana clip for work, ha!
  • I'll probably need Lasik in a few years. And I hear ya Moxie..I gained weight from medication also.

I really love mud-have my whole life. I'd like to get one of those spa mud treatments where you just get immersed in a tub of mud. I'd eat something with onions first so's I can make some "mud bubbles". :p
  • eww!! mud bubbles.. HAHAHAH!! or self made jacuzzi??

my sister had thermage done on her under arms.. she lost a lot of weight in a short time, and even after years of healthy diet and constant exercise, her underarm was still loose from all the excess skin.. the thermage worked, but it hurt like hell..

here's some pix i found on body thermage: Wang Plastic Surgery
  • Jacuzzi?! That's a big request but I'm sure I could do it with the help of some beans and rice :p

Never heard of thermage. Interesting. I'm always getting these coupons in the Val-Pak for plastic surgery options and such.(20% off your first Botox injection!) My favorite one is for Miami Tan. I live in LA, why would people want a tan like they get in Miami? And just exactly what does that mean? While you're tanning they turn the humidity up to 96% and let mosquitoes bite you? They play Gloria Estefan and waft in the scent of frying plantains?
  • I had a mud-spa treatment once. (My mother-in-law gave me a gift certifcate to a spa for my birthday.) It was a disappointment. The "mud" had the color and consistency of coke. And the technician or whatever you call them stayed in the room "for safety reasons" so I just sat there in the tub of coke thinking "well, this is awkward". My skin didn't feel any different after so I'd call it a total waste. I should've gotten the hot stone massage.

TailFeather, the coupons that you get if you live in Miami are for an LA Tan. Because the grass is always greener ... I live in Connecticut and I get coupons for lawn services and stuff, which seems very unfair.
  • Eww, coke? I'll stick to making mud pies. Wether someone was there or not I'd still have my fun with mud bubbles. (yes, I know I should act my age, but where's the fun in that?)

I live in LA and get coupons for a place called Miami Tan. It's just a name for another tanning place in an area of the country where there is abundant sunshine and I don't get why there are any at all. The sun is free, partake at will! Just use lots of sunscreen.

Just exactly what happens in a tanning salon? How long does it take and what do you wear?
  • In tanning salons you can go nude or wear a bikini, the little eye protectors they give you, and a tan accelerator cream, and you can go in for up to 15 or 20 minutes but they recommend shorter for the first few times.

I don't do the tanning booth, I do spray tan or st. tropez sunless tanner at home. No cancer for me thanks.
  • tanning is kinda funny to me.. why do people want to look like pumpkins?

maybe it's the asian upbringing, but I stay out of the sun as much as I can.. so i can never understand why people want to be tanned!

well.. maybe it'll be nice to have legs that weren't blindingly white, but i don't think it's something i can change.. it's ALWAYS white, despite the fact that i wear skirts year round.. it didn't even tan when i was in band camp, while every other part of my body burned and turned black! (please, no band camp jokes)

anyhow.. change of subject.. my sister took her friend to Dr. Wang (who did her thermage) because her friend was interested reshaping her jaw.. it seems really common in asia (have you noticed how all korean female stars have the same face shape, nose, and eyes?), and since her friend has a wider face, she wanted her jaws to be reshaped.. Dr. Wang told her instead to do Botox! somehow dead skin will give u the ability to look skinnier?

and while yes, Botox is potentially dangerous.. that's why you pay lots of money to have a board certified surgeon perform it!!
  • I stay out of the sun, too. I do Mystic Tans at tanning salons when something special is coming up. It really looks natural on me (no orange) but I absolutely HATE the process. I feel like I am in a gas chamber! My heart starts racing and I feel like I can't hold my breath one second longer. One of these days, I swear I'm going to have a panic attack half way through and freak out!

Every time I leave the salon I say, "This was my VERY last time." Famous last words....LOL
  • I thini it's good to have just the tiniest bit of color. Mine just comes in the form of Freckles...gotta love em! But Igenerally always put sunscreen on after about 30-45 minutes and then re-apply every hour or so. I will fry if I don't.

Karen--sounds like you have an addiction...lol
  • Tai, I know what you mean about "blindingly white". I'm Irish and was teased constantly about being so fair when I was in high school. My best friends were both Italian and spent their summers tanning and saying things like "I don't care if I have wrinkles when I'm 35; I won't care what I look like then." I bet they don't feel that way now. I had the biggest crush on one of my older brother's friends; he would completely ignore me when he came to our house with one exception; he told me my skin was the color "of a dead frog's stomach."
  • that's mean!!!

My legs are just weird in general. My dad is soo dark people think he bathed in soy sauce as a kid, and my mom is soo white it seems like she's never seen the sun before. My sisters (5 girls) are all a nice neutral color, not too white, not too dark, healthy looking people, and here I am.. with legs so white my actual white neighbors with the fair skin and blonde hair made fun of!

thing is, my arms and face do tan! well.. they get red and the red gradually turns into a tan!

as one of the patients at my old job said, "honey, you are living in the wrong city."
  • PurpleRules--that is really mean. I too have a lot of Irish in me so I can feel you with the white white white skin....I think I may have gotten burned a few times as a kid though because I have great freckles that come out in the spring/summer!

    Taiwanesegurl--my legs don't get color ever either. Face--nice, arms--nice, back--nice (like I said I wait about 30 minutes before applying...generally it burns)
  • He's bald and paunchy now so I definitely got the last laugh.
  • Interesting... So you only go into a tanning booth for about 15-20 minutes; or have the option of standing naked while someone sprays you all over with "dye" and stay that way until it dries. (I can't help but hink of DaVinci's Vitruvian Man) And it might feel like being in a gas chamber and claustrophobic.

    Ok, good to know...

Even if I did want to go to a tanning booth, there ain't one big enough ;). And if I got sprayed I'd be there for literally hours drying.

cate: I'm a Catholic school survivor also, and I hated public school. I have that Irish fair skin too complete with freckles when I get some sun.

"my skin was the color "of a dead frog's stomach."
He's bald and paunchy now so I definitely got the last laugh."

    Heehee!
  • TailFeather: There is absolutely no one in the booth with me. A machine does it! And I must tell you that I'll probably do it again, as insane as it all sounds to you. Let's just hope I survive the process and live to tell about it...LOL

PurpleRules, Gloria, and Cate: I am just like you three. I have very fair skin, freckles, burn or gradually tan on my face, arms, etc., but I have WHITE legs! They just won't tan. (I'm part Irish, myself.) That's why I do the Mystic Tan: So that I look more "even" when I want to get dressed up with open-toed shoes or sandals and am not going to wear stockings, with the intention that my legs will look nice.

I've sometimes wondered if shaving my legs daily contributes to the "no tan" problem. In other words, when you shave, you're exfolliating the top layer of skin that might have some tan pigments. I guess my question is, "Do people who get their legs waxed have better tanning results there?"

    Anyone ever notice that?
  • Karen--I doubt shaving daily has anything to do with it because I don't shave daily. My poor husband! I get rather irritated and so does my skin. And in the winter--ha--forget it. Our house is so cold in the winter because we have baseboarad heaters in every room so we only turn them on in the kitchen, family room and our bedroom basically and we had our bathroom redone this past spring and supposedly the heat lamps we installed are supposed to be 'enough' to keep me warm--that's a joke! So no I don't really shave too often in the winter--I just can't get warm enough and stay warm enough for a complete shaving I know it sounds gross, but it's always a treat for my wonderful husband when I do shave. I always make him feel...lol!
  • Karen, I just hope there are no fire drills while you're in there! LOL Hey, if it works for you, that's cool. And I have also wondered about the shaving thing.

Cate, I hear ya. Even in LA I cover up for most of the winter. So cares about shaggy legs? lol After a while the hair gets so long you don't even notice it anymore. And you know, I am always saying to my husband that it's SO unfair that guys don't have to shave-anything! Even worse for me, for some reason all the hair on his shins is gone! Can you believe that?! He thinks it's because of the way he sat as a kid, but I how unfair is that?

And I really get so pissed when it's hot and I can't go topless but some hairy, sweaty guy with manboobs bigger than me can. Grrr!
    (But that's a completely different rant :p )
  • I wouldn't think that waxing would be more effective at leaving your tan than shaving. You do actually pull off a layer of skin when you wax and depending on how sharp your razor is, it could be just as much as shaving.
  • Left brain- waxing and shaving take off about the same amount of color (more if you're using sunless tanner obviously). The only difference is that shaving can prolong the process of removing skin cells- waxing in my experience seems to take it all of it once, while shaving takes the layers slowly.
  • I would like a nose job. My nose was broken when I was 7. I had an MRI done of my head a couple of years ago and got to see just how broken it is. I think I would breathe better at night if I had it fixed. And, I would like to have my teeth whitened. The latter is much easier to do than the first. Oh, and cheeckbones. I would like teaspoon like cheecks but I don't think my face is shaped appropriately for them.
  • I would have a breast lift, no implants, just a lift. I would do a 'microdermabrasion'but I don't know what that is in french. I would hav a liposucction on my stomach and saddle bags(top thighs, not eyes)really want to try this Lisik (sp). We don' have that here.
  • I also buy too many book to have much left over for treatments but I have had some.
I have had teeth whitening which was kind of awful but I do like the results.
I have also had mud baths which I would HIGHLY recommend.  Your skin really feels purged of all impurities afterwards.
I have had facials but my skin is too sensitve for them now.  They felt pampering but when I want to feel pampered I get a massage.  I also had my scalp and hair massaged and oll conditioned.  LOVED the massage but hated the oil stuff...it actually made my hair drier.
I  guess I would like liposcution on my saddle bags but until then there are Spanx (actually I have Assets the Target cheaper version of Spanx).
I would also like collagen injected where my expression lines are beginning to sag.  Or is that a Botox thing?

  • Tattoos and piercings, chemical peels, professional microneedling. I wouldn't stretch my ears because I think that the big stretch of the ear skin looks gross especially without the plug. I want to try fake plugs though.
  • oh and skin whitening for my acne scars when i finish accutane.
  • A tummy tuck! I have had four kids two natural and two c section enough said!

  • I would have a couple of things done...I would get a photo light facial, a laser treatment for stretchmarks.
Now for the under the knife stuff, I would get liposuction on my stomach only because I have a weird division across my belly button where I don't gain weight so I have 2 roles one above the belly button and one below it is so weird, I guess it is like a fat distrabution problem or something idk. I would also get my breasts reduced.
