Can you give me any information you might have on the Nuskin Galvanic Spa? I've been approached about using/selling this product and as an esthetician I can't support a product if it doesn't work. I couldn't find much research outside the company site. Any info you might have would be great.
wow, I just looked at their website and their claims are really overblown. The galvanic spa specifically, seems like the end all be all, until you remember that "electronic stimulation" can and likely does result in irritation. Similar to popular lip plumping products, when the skin swells with irritation, women think their newly "plump" skin and pink glow is proof of an antiaging result. Unfortunately irritation/inflammation actually degrades collagen with frequent use, but we don't see that because we don't have microscopes. I would be wary of these products and claims.
By the way, chemical peels and laser procedures were founded on the idea that high level inflammation actually repairs skin. The reason for this is twofold. First, the level of irritation is truly acute and the skin gets severely inflamed, which means the skin's natural repair process must be activated. And secondly, it's done very infrquently, so as not to overstress these repair mechanisms and cause damage that the skin can't keep up with. At home products that cause a lower level inflammation have the opposite effect, the inflammation is not enough to activate the repair mechanisms, but occurs frequently enough to cause the damage to proteins in the skin. This is why most dermatologists (unless they shill for a skincare line) will tell you that the best option for healthier skin is to follow a very gentle routine at home and incorporate in-office treatments when the funds allow it. It's a lot healthier for skin and in the long run, the wallet too.
I got curious and started to look at the site, but in all honesty, the preview that came up on the search engine sounded so heavily marketed that I was afraid to visit the site for fear it would put adware on my computer:) BTW I just had bona fide galvanic treatment and it killed some of my hair follicles (that was the idea).
