shampoo/bodywash
  • Is there any problem with using shampoo as a body wash? I like to have as few bottles of stuff as possible...
  • Abolutely NOT...anything gentle enough for your hair should be fine on your body.
Now, of course, if you are using some kind of prestige shampoo (Pureology, et.al.)  it would be expensive but otherwise it seems a good way to use one product for multiple uses.
  • I think it depends on you.  Dr. Benabio of dermblog.com says no, because most shampoos tend to dry out the skin more, especially during the winter.  He recommends using something like Dove for your body.

Then again, it also depends on how the shampoo is formulated.  I think the Brains once said it was fine, and some companies market some shampoo/body as a 2-in-1.
So if it doesn't bother you, then why not?
  • It does depend a bit on the specific formula.  But I know for a fact that there are some body washes (can't say who) which were originally shampoo formulas that were just modified slightly and called body washes.
You're right that they can be a bit more drying as shampoos use higher levels of surfactants but in a pinch, I'll use shampoo as my body wash.  Heck, I've even used body wash as my shampoo.
  • Body wash as a shampoo you say...

I may have to try this at some point if I want particularly yummy smelling hair.
  • Let me amend my response...as others have said it does depend upon the FORMULA.  A clarifying shampoo that strips your hair of product would probably not be a good choice...too drying.
  • I have used body wash as shampoo and it worked fine on my hair. But I must admit, I have only done with with 'special' body washes such as when I treat myself to a bottle of The Body Shop body wash. Those are all natural, nicely fragranced and do have natural moisturizers. I have not used a typical over the counter body wash on my hair.
  • I only do it when I have no other choice, but I use Dove or Oil Of Olay Bar soap in the shower so that avoids a bottle.  Also if you want to cut down on bottles in the shower just use your conditioner for shaving.  I just buy again Dove or Pantene in the big bottle.  It works great!
