L-Ascobic Acid
  • I have been experimenting with L-ascorbic acid as a way to get rid of dark spots and to counter act tanning so I don't have to mix up more foundation to match my summer hue. I have also read that you have to be extremely careful with it to prevent oxidation.
I am almost out of the first mixture that I made, which was L-ascorbic acid dissolved in a little, very little, water, then added to a little grape seed oil for night time use. I would like to try another batch but am unsure about the best way to blend it.

    Any suggestions?
  • There is a really great site called Smart Skin Care (www.smartskincare.com) that goes into the whole vitamin C thing. For $10 you can buy a large PDF file that documents many proven ways to make your own skincare using active ingredients. BE VERY CAREFUL, as making your own products can be dangerous diue to lack of any preservatives (bacteria growth, etc).

The best way to use ascorbic acid is to mix it with an anhydrous base (such as Aquaphor), to best prevent oxidation. Also, if you mix a small (less than 1 ounce) or even single use amount at a time, that is your safest bet.

I have read posts from people about actually applying the ascorbic acid mixture and then rinsing, I guess many people don't leave it on to sink in. I'm not sure why or how this affects its performance, anyone know or tried??
  • I hadn't heard about the rinsing method. I woul dlike to leave my blend on over night, or at least for a few hours.

    Hmmmmm.....
