Eight years ago, my aunt became ill and was unable to care for herself anymore. She left her pain and suffering and went home to heaven last week. She loved makeup, and as we were cleaning out her home, we found multiples of Clinique moisturizer, Clinique loose face powder, Maybelline Great Lash mascara, and Lancome liquid makeup that were brand new and unopened. This makeup is at the very least 8 years old, but I wondered, is it useable? Thanks for the help!
K, it is best to contact the manufacturer. I had a similar query about Cetaphil lotion since it does not mention the expiry date, so I wrote to galderma & they replied to my email stating Cetaphil Lotion is stable for 7 years if kept away from water & other contaminants.
i have a similar question.
I have a foundation that was manufactured in May 2007 and is to expire in May 2010.
It has only been opened less than a year and is oil-free. I hear u can keep oil-free foundation for a year or 18 months. So, if expiry date has passed, do i keep it because it was opened a lot later than its manufacture, or just toss it?
Do I check for the way it feels, stings or irritation, to judge? or just throw it?
For unopened cosmetics, the primary problems you'll face are aesthetic. Particularly the color or odor might change. If you don't mind how it feels there is no reason to throw it away, especially if it is an oil-free product. Water based products might have microbial problems and these should be discarded shortly after opening if it is passed the expiration date.
