Hair loss & dryness
  • Hello i wanted to ask some questions about my hair.

    1. My hair keeps falling alot and is getting quite thin, my hair usually falls out while i am brushing it or washing it. Why do you think this is happening? My mum says i may be short of some nutrition and may be because i dont drink enough water.

2.My hair feels dry and dead is it true if you put egg and mayo it is good for the hair? if not do you know what i can do?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Faz,
I'm not a doctor by any means....BUT, have you had ever had your thyroid checked?? I would get to a Dr. and do this asap. A simple blood test will tell you if its your thyroid. Your symptoms sound just like mine and after a blood test, I've been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Taking a good hair, nail & skin vitamin helps and also Biotin and Evening Primrose is supposed to help, but if it is your thyroid, your hair will keep falling out, thinning and breaking until your thyroid level is adjusted with medication.

    Hope this helps....

  • I'm curious about what "short of some nutrition" might mean. What do you think your mom might be thinking?
  • You don't say how old you are, but it may be related to hormones. This is definitely a medical question best discussed with a doctor.
  • Hello again, sorry im replying back so late, i'm new on this.
Mary you said i should check with the doctor just in case its thyroid, but i'm only 15, i can't get thyroids this early can i?
  • The thyroid is a gland in your neck. You've had it for your entire life. It can be overactive or underactive, which can cause an assortment of health problems, one of which could be hair loss. Everyone's hair gets thinner as they get older but you're too young to be experiencing this so her advice to see a doctor is probably the best thing to do.
  • Faz,

Thats about the age I was when I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, so it would be worth having it checked.
  • Talk to a doctor ASAP. This is not an issue to be discussed with random strangers on the internet, it's an actual medical issue!
  • ooh no! ok i will make an appointment with the doctor, thank you for your help!
