I read in the February issue of Allure that a scientific journal published study that found that ingredients and sunscreens can actually cause free radical damage. Can you help me make sense of these findings?
Oh it's a hot issue these days, but don't worry most companies include AOX in their sunscreen so you don't have to worry! Still a bit worried? Use a AOX-rich serum underneath your sunscreen!
How come sunscreens causes Free radicals? I read it several days ago, but I thought it had something to do with the fact that sunscreen comes less effective as time goes by do that you have to re-apply it every two hours, if not the chemical sunscreen that penetrated your skin will create more Free radicals then normal.
I have however no idea if that also could be the thing for other UVA filters such as Mexoryl SX, XL and Tinosorb S & M! Since only octylmethoxycinnamate, benzophenone-3 and octocrylene were tested aswell as Avobenzone in a other study that came to the same conclusion.
When using Physical sunscreens such as ZnO and TiDiO you shouldn't be worried since they can't penetrate the skin, nano-technology or not (atleast that were the results from the European Project 'NanoDerm')
