I naturally have black hair. I have never dyed it, but I have used henna on my hair about 6 times. I did my research and the henna I used was top quality---no nasty chemicals in it.
I have been wanting to add some brown highlights to the front of my hair to add some warmth to my face.
I saw this pic of Penelope Cruz and I think this is ideally how I want my hair to look.
Here's the pic: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00025/penelope_cruz_25575t.jpg
I love how though she has some light brown highlights, her hair still looks very dark. I love dark hair, so even though I want highlights, I still want to maintain a dark hair color.
My question is, have any of you Beauty Brain fans ever lightened your dark hair on your own? I have read that 3% hydrogen peroxide, lemons, vinegar, chamomile tea, etc with some added heat can lighten hair. However, I don't know if I could lighten my very dark hair. Can anyone share their experiences?
Or should I just break down and go to a hair stylist and show her the picture so that he/she can recreate the look?
I'd love to hear your thoughts/opinions!
Thanks everyone!
I'd go to a salon. It's too easy to mess it up and then you'll still end up going to a salon to have them fix it. The effect you're going for is very subtle so it seems like it should be easy but you'd probably end up lighter then you intended if you did it yourself.
Agree with PR. Highlights are a bit tricky. Do go to a more experienced stylist so they won't over lighten your hair.
Back in High School I did the lemon juice thing, and the result wasn't exactly pretty. Since then I've been happily forking money over to get exactly what I want.
