I was listening to Cosmo Radio the other morning just to get away from all the Michael Vick *shudder* crap that has been all over ESPN Radio (my fav) lately and the girl that does the morning show was talking about how long it takes her to get ready in the morning and she said she took a 45 minute shower and then a full hour to get ready. Ifind that to be completely insane.
I can take a long shower in fact I used to let the water run until it turned cold in my old bathroom (it wasn't that long maybe 25 minutes). I like showers.
It just doesn't take me a full hour to get ready unless I have to blow dry my hair (which I generally don't have to).
Most of you know by now that I am a nanny so it makes no sense to get all gussied up to play with paint so about 10 minutes, but when my husband and I go out to a concert or nice dinner it generall takes about a half hour max.
How about you girls. How long does it take you to get ready?
I usually take about an hour and a half total. 20 minutes or so to shower, brush my teeth, etc. Then I let my hair air dry for about half an hour with gel in it before I diffuse. After that I do my makeup, then scrunch out my hair upside down to take the crunch out of the gel and get dressed.
I takes me about 35-45 minutes to shower, shampoo, apply make-up, and dry my hair. When I have a bad hair day or goof up my mascara I can become hysterical because it wrecks my entire schedule. Sign...
Hair and makeup takes me about 15 minutes-ish (as for hair, it's only straightening and brushing it, and makeup only takes less than five minutes usually), sometimes longer if I decide I want to try something new with the makeup. Showering takes about 25-30 minutes, and I generally let it air-dry (I also tend to do this at night, so it's completely seperate from what I do in the morning), which takes about three hours. :p
An hour and a half to two hours if I'm doing the whole shebang -- wash hair, exfoliate and shave, moisterize, style hair and do my makeup. I can easily spend 20 minutes on my makeup but my hair is fine so it dries in a snap. I let it air dry and then smooth it and make it bend in the right direction with a blowdryer; that takes about 5 minutes.
Are we supposed to include the time we spend staring into the closet deciding what to wear? Every night I decide what I'm wearing the next day. Every morning, I change my mind.
Oh my gosh you ladies are so funny! I'm loving this! Maybe I'm the abnormal one. I can't imagine spending that much time getting ready.
Has anyone ever been late for a date due to getting ready?
I always start to get ready like 6 hours before I need to and then I have 5 and a half hours left to twiddle my thumbs and ponder the outfit.
PurpleRules: I do the same thing with my wardrobe. We went to a charity event that the Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers is part of and I think I had my make-up and hair done in 15 minutes, but changed my outfit 4 times...I went from black dress, to pink skirt/white top, to oragney purple skirt/orangey top and finally chose green/white skirt with previous orangy top....it looks much better than mydescription. My husband was irritated with me, but we weren't late. And then I got toasted on David Aker's dollar! It was fabulous! :boogie:
Getting ready for a date? Since I'm married (met my hubby freshman year of HS, and we got married 1.5 years ago when I was 20, now on our 7th year together), I determine when the date is. :P ladies.. I know it's weird for this to come from me, but when you meet a great guy, hold on to him cuz they are hard to come by!!
anyhow....
My friends are normally frustrated with me because I'm always late. I already operate on "Asian Time" (you know.. 6 PM means 7:30 PM), and then I take forever with my make up. I'm sorry if I just want to look good!!!
I was not always like this though. I remember before meeting my hubby, when I went out on a date, I'd just put on a shirt and jeans when my date arrives and head out the door. That only took 30 seconds. :P
I did time myself today though (getting ready for a concert), and I took exactly an hour. Well.. I gave myself an hour. That included only a quick shower, make up, and 2 minutes to get dressed. I didn't even have time for my hair, so I ended up putting mousse in it for my curls to show through. Otherwise I would have straighten it with a blow dryer, but that takes 30 minutes. :P
Oh, well the "blow them out of the water" beautification process is more like two and half hours for me!....lol
I am seriously thinking of having my legs lasered to "shave some time off" my time in the shower. The Brains are right: hairfacts.com is THE place to go to find out everything you need to know about the process. Once you start getting into it, there sure is a lot to consider: Alexandrite lasers. Diode lasers. IPL. RIght now, I'm on information overload and almost don't know which way to proceed. Trust the doctor that the machine he/she owns will get the job done but put my next vacation on hold? Go to a hair removal place to save some money but hope the technician is experienced? AHHH!
contacts took 15 minutes to put in yesterday. They were just not interested in my eyes. That was my total allowed time to get dressed. I was late for work, but not by much
Oooh, this is a good question. I guess it depends on what I'm going for. If I'm just going to work, it takes me about 10 minutes.. pull hair back, a little concealer, powder, and mascara. If I'm going to class, I try a tiny bit harder and usually spend a bit more time on my hair and/or makeup, so maybe 15 minutes, 20 max. (This is all minus shower, I generally do that at night).
However, if I'm going out at night, I spend a lot of time. I will shower, shampoo, shave, exfoliate, moisturize, etc, for about 20-30 minutes and then hair and makeup can take me up to an hour, maybe even more if I'm having fun and playing with different looks.
The clothing choice is a complete disaster and generally takes every last minute until I absolutely have to be out the door.
I have fairly short, curly hair and I ride a motorcycle, so helmet-head is a fact of life. Fortunately, I can just fluff my hair with my fingers once I get to work/school/wherever and go about my business.
My makeup is minimal most days and I shower before I go to bed, so out of bed to out the door is about a half hour total - including tripping over, feeding, and petting the cats.
If I'm getting all gussied up for a special occasion, I can take up to an hour with shower, hair, make up, and getting dressed. I always loathed the "girls are always late" crap in high school, so I make it a point to give myself enough time and keep an eye on the clock while I get ready. I still agonize over clothes choices, but I don't give myself a lot of time to dither.
pas71--I always found that when I was in school....college that is I always spent more time getting ready for class but not to much more. I was just trying to catch the eye of the boys.
I am going to make an effort to try and spend more than an hour getting ready for the next big date with the hubby.
hahaha, it's definitely not to catch the eyes of the boys! I'm a grad student, so I generally wear makeup when I go to class so I look "put-together," rather than "just rolled out of bed." I think I look tired and young (not good young) without a little eye makeup.
oh man, i hate admitting this, but it takes me most of the day. i became disabled recently and move like molasses. i don't pay much attention to time because i play with skin care, cosmetics, and a wide variety of hair goop more as less as therapy.
by the time i finish the last swipe of gloss it's time to touchup on the foundation that i started hours earlier.
i take showers before bedtime. those are 3min, but if i have to exfoliate, wash my fair - it takes 35min :) make up is usually 10min, and additional 10min for putting in contacts, brushing teeth, toning and moisturizing, putting on sunscreen.
Hm, judging from the last time that I got completely done up (to go to a chamber music concert in Santa Barbara that ABSOLUTELY ROCKED), about half an hour to forty minutes.
Ten to fifteen minutes to shower, closer to fifteen. Dressing takes no time since even my formal clothing is pretty low-maintenance. I love very slinky, tight one-piece dresses, so you just pull on hose and underwear, then yank the dress over your head and you're DONE.
Zero time fo rhair since it's nearly ot my knees; braid it, pin it up with a fancy clip, and you're done.
Makeup doesn't take long, either. Powder, mascara, a bit of eye makeup, lipstick (often just a dab of color then some gloss), done. When it comes ot makeup, I prefer the sort of look that looks like you just rolled out of bed looking like that and just look naturally fabulous. It's a matter of taste, but I like makeup to look non-obvious. I'm fortunate in that I have a fairly even skin tone and dark brows and lashes, though.
Pop on the shoes, and I'm finished. I think getting ready expands to fill the alloted time though, as Purple put it. If you like the fun of fussing around, you'll take as long as you have. If you hate the annoyance of fussing around, it'll take as little time as possible. :-)
I take about 15-20 for a shower, makeup about 10, 20 if i'm going somewhere other than college (quite rare :D)
Hair is my mystery...I sometimes blow dry fast and continue with straightening. Other than that, there's cream and blow dry. Or if already dry hair I can straighten or just put on a surtete , or ponytail on a busy day
Got any other ideas on what to do with hair??Mine is about 40cm and a bit wavy (kinda frizzy)
If I'm showering it takes me about an hour because then I have to blow dry and flat iron my hair. If I'm not showering it only takes about 20 minutes for me to wash my face, put in my contacts, moisturize, slap on makeup and run out the door.
I have really quick showers, 10 mins max to sud up, shave legs and cleanse face- I live in a place which is 75% in drought, we count every last drop of water. If I'm going out to something 'big' like a glam dinner or opera or something, I'd usually wash my hair the day before and knot it in a bun and just wear a showercap because it tends to fall in lovely waves that way. It would normally take an extra 10mins or so (with water turned off inbetween) to wash and condition my hair. I can do my makeup (primer, foundation, concealer, mascara, blush primer, blush and lipstick) in less than 10mins if I'm pressed for time. Figuring out what to wear takes the longest...though I'm usually thinking about that all day/week!
45 min to 1.5 hours. The 1.5 hours usually involves coffee, breakfast, and a TV show while I do my makeup. I'm in grad school, so I rarely go all out, but on the upside I'm rarely in a rush to get to class since most of them are online. I'll be sad when I have to go back to the 9-5 world, but oh well.
It can take me a half hour when I really try to get ready, but usually about an hour and fifteen minutes because I like to let my hair air dry as much as possible before i blow it dry
ahahaha here goes:
I wash and style my hair only once a week but when I do: washing takes half an hour, I airdry for an hour and then blowdry for another half hour and then half an hour for flatironing and afterstyling lotions. 2.5 hrs.
I shower in the evening (and usually just hide my hair) I take extra time cleansing everything off my face cause I wear a lot, I shave my legs and scrub my feet. I get out, put on my self tanner all over and add stronger self tanner to parts that don't take color as well. I tone my face and put on my serums and eyelash stuff. It takes about an hour total.
In the morning I wake up, apply AHA body lotion, wash my face again, do my skincare. That takes about half an hour, my makeup takes about half an hour and then I just dry shampoo, add more serum to the ends and brush my hair. So the morning is just over an hour.
I've worked it down to about 30-40 minutes including breakfast, but only because (okay, this is embarrassing) I don't blow dry, put most of my makeup on at work (I have a big makeup organizer I throw in the bag), and I keep a toothbrush there too (that's how often I hit snooze).
I just had to go to a Mad Men ball and it took all day driving between appointments to get ready. Nails, Hair and makeup. I like to go to a professional for a big night out because why not? At least it only leaves putting on a gown and scent, then going.
