Do vitamins/nutrients from a yogurt mask get absorbed into the skin?
  • I've heard that yogurt contains certain nutrients and vitamins, and people use it for facial masks, but how much of those nutrients really get absorbed into the skin, and so what benefits are there to slathering yogurt on your face?
  • Which of the nutrients or vitamins in yogurt are supposed to be good for your skin? I don't have any yogurt in the fridge right now but, if I recall correctly, it's basically milk and bacteria. The bacteria is good for your digestive tract but I don't think it's going to do much for your skin. Nor is the milk. I would imagine that it just sits on the surface and doesn't really do much.
  • I believe that it's actually the lactic acid that helps smooth out your skin, not the nutrients in the yogurt, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  • That makes sense. Supposedly, Cleopatra bathed in milk. (Of course, Cleopatra is rumored to have done all sorts of ridiculous things so take that with a grain of salt.) That would be a mighty expensive habit these days. I suppose yogurt has a better consistency if you wanted to use it as a mask. I don't know if it actually works though.
