Can club soda help to get rid of chlorine?
  • I read that rinsing your hair with club soda after swimming can help against chlorine and prevent damage to hair. Is it true?
  • Any shampoo will remove the chlorine from your hair, but use a very moisturizing shampoo and conditioner if you are in the pool frequently. By the time you wash the chlorine out it's already done it's damage. Pool chlorine can dye your hair green, so if you're thinking club soda will remove the green- I doubt it. Here is a past beauty brains post that may help you: http://thebeautybrains.com/2007/03/27/the-best-way-to-get-chlorine-out-of-your-hair/
  • Yeah, the club soda thing is a myth.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but the green color happens because the chlorine bleaches the hair and the rust(?) is greenish, and shows on the lightened parts of the hair. I only ask this because I've read that club soda contains salts (and other substances) that react with and help against chlorine. I don't use shampoos, and avoid coney conditioners, so for me the choice is to post-treat my hair with something or just leave the chlorine in in. Second option is not an option, I hoped club soda could help prevent further damage. Can it?
  • Would saturating your hair with soda water or non-chlorinated water before getting in the pool help? If your hair is already saturated would it absorb less chlorine?
  • PurpleRules, that's a neat idea, saturating hair with the club soda before going in the pool. Maybe it could be more helpful like that too.
