do spf values add up?
  • hi beautybrains! i'm arpee from the philippines. i'm currently using two moisturizers at the same time (pond's flawless white day cream and pond's age defense -multi-benefiting illuminating cream spf 15pa++). i don't know if i'm doing myself a double favor but i'm happy about it , so whatever! i called up the pond's consumer hotline and i found out that the flawless white day cream has an spf value of 15 and i confirmed it at their pondsarabia website. i'm just wondering if i'm getting a total of spf 30 protection or i'm just overapplying spf 15 on my face? have a great time
  • No, SPF does not accumulate and add up. You are still getting SPF 15. I confirmed this on Dr. Benabio's blog at thedermblog.com.
  • Yes, I've read they don't add. I have to admit I sometimes kid myself that putting an SPF powder over an SPF liquid might add a bit of extra protection, but this is probably wishful thinking, not fact...
  • You're right, they don't add up.  Two layers of SPF 15 are NOT equal to one SPF 30.
