Is there any way to reverse split end damage--short of cutting them off? I bought (in a moment of weakness) Pantene Pro-v Daily Moisture Renewal. It claims that it is
"designed to repair the look of damaged hair, provide protection agianst future damage and prevent split ends from forming."
I have looked through some of the posting about long hair and split ends and didn't see anything on ways to repair the hair. Just Curious. Although I do have some split ends and I pretty much do the right things to my hair :(
best i know, you can only prevent it. split ends can keep on splitting up the hair, so the sooner you cut it off, the better. keep using that pantene stuff, though.
There is definitely no way to actually physically fix a split end in your hair. You essentially have 2 options:
1. use products designed to coat the hair and seal the split end temporarily (until the product is washed out).
2. use strengthening and conditioning products on healthy hair to prevent the damage from happening in the first place.
A lot of what causes split ends is heat and styling, too - so even if you condition your hair well, blasting it with your dryer may do more damage than any healthy piece of hair can handle.
I feel your pain. Trim frequently (I say this but never get around to doing it)... : )
Seriously, if there were a product that could reverse split end damage I'd have found it. I have long hair and trim it myself. Invest in a *good* pair of hair scissors from a salon or beauty supply. Every woman should own a pair. You may not want to trim your own hair, but we all have those moments when we sit there trimming off separate split ends. You know, when all of a sudden you see a huge split end where each half is curled up that looks like a tiny IUD...

Maybe, but it can only hold that off so long. And once the hair is dead and split ends have formed, nothing will reverse that.
Well, I generally don't blow dry my hair. I just think I am more aware of it since I am donating in a month. I also went through a phase wher I lost my wide tooth comb so I tried to let my hair dry after showering before brushing....somedays were better than others.
TF--I definitely own a good pair of scissors. I trim my own bangs--yes I stupidly had bangs cut into my hair in May and now I have to keep them trimmed or just let them grow out...but it is so humid here right now I can't stand them long in my face..grrr...
Cate, do what I do in the summer. Just keep it up and away from your face. No one will know any different and before you know it they'll grow out. :) I feel for you in that humidity! And take at least 2000mg of extra Vitamin C daily -it works for me to grow hair faster. I swear, I took down my hair for it's daily brushing and it was longer :p My bangs are a mess too so I'm waiting to grow them out also.
Who or what are you donating your hair to? That's awesome of you.
Well, originally Wigs for Kids through my stylist...but I just recently found out that my cousin has breast cancer and today she is having a radical mastectomy (sp). She will have to go through chemo and radiation. She had/has amazing hair. She is half Chinese and so it was looong and dark and think and I always wanted it when I was a kid. So I might have the stylist dye my hair dark and offer it up to her. I don't know yet though. She is about 12-15 years older than me.
