The blog today reminded me I need to find a decent sunscreen. The one I use is ok, but it burns slightly.(Hawaiian Tropic) And I often go out to Death Valley(because I'm a desert rat) so I need to slather it on.
I'd prefer to use a non-animal tested brand that doesn't make my eyes go Warner Bros. at the cost. Any suggestions?
I like Coppertone continuous spray. Although you really REALLY have to exfoliate to get it off. My only concern is that I tend to use an entire can in 2 days and it's expensive and I will be at the beach every day next summer. Yay beach house! Perks of the new job!
Is there really a difference anyone has noticed using a higher SPF? The brains did a really good blog about this awhile back, but I'm wondering if anyone has noticed with personal use.
anybody have tried house brand sunscreens/sunblocks? i've mainly used any cheap brand i can find, but found that with or without it, i still get horribly burned, even if i spend the majority of the time in the shade. though, my last crispy episode was using an expensive iMoxie spf 30 sunscreen .. and the area was Sparks, Nevada, if that has anything to do with it.
"crispy episode" lol... FWIW Sariel, when I go out to Death Valley where there are no buildings to block ANY sun I don't get any darker tan. But, sitting in the car driving there with my arm in the sun in one position for 4 hours, that'll do it.
I use and LOVE...LOVE...LOVE..Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Block Sunscreen on my face daily as a primer for my foundation.
I have also been using Neutrogena Age-Shield Sunblock during the summer for the rest of my body but I must say it flakes off and really leaves a residue on my clothes so I think I will go back to Banana Boat for my body.
I agree with Judy about Neutrogena Ultra Sheer -- it rocks. It holds up really well, doesn't make my face oily. I have to put a little bit of moisturizer on underneath it, though, or the dry bits of my face get flakey. In the winter, when I definitely need more moisturizing, I use Paula's Choice Extra Care SPF 30 sunscreen. She says if you are just going to work inside an office building, you only need SPF 15, but I feel better using 30. Her stuff is fragrance-free, dye-free, funky irritant-free, and not tested on animals. Leaves my face a bit shiny, but I wear make-up over it anyway, so my loose powder takes care of the shine. It's also a bit more expensive than neutrogena, but you do get quite a large tube for the money, so it's not bad.
On my body I use spray sunblock -- usually Coppertone or just the drugstore brand. Works fabulous for me. The only time I've burned has been due to application screw-ups on my part. Ooh, makes me hurt just thinking about it. :-(
Yup, Neutrogena Dry Touch sunscreen is great! It can be kind of expensive, but you can find better deals for it for on Amazon. Right now they sell a package of two tubes of the SPF 70 (didn't know it went that high!) for $14.99. And of course there's the free shipping on purchases over $25.
I feel like I've tested almost every sunscreen mentioned here...to all of you Neutrogena fans, lucky you! for some reason, my skin burns like crazy if I try any of their Dry Touch sunscreen lines. I am really sensitive to chemical sunscreen ingredients like avobenzone. With that said, I have to use the baby/infant formulations of Banana Boat or Coppertone sunscreens. I am curious to try Bullfrog brand. On my face, I use Shiseido.
Taiwanesegurl, just interested to know which DHC sunscreen you used. I've only tired their White sunscreen, and it was ok but one bottle didn't last long. Plus I have to mailorder it since I live in NJ.
