Eyelash Extensions: Anyone tried them or know someone who did?
  • We've all been talking about great mascaras and it got me thinking about a salon in my area that is advertising eyelash extensions. I did a Google search to find out more. The cost and upkeep is really high; I don't like the make-up limitations that go with it, and I saw a scary article online about problems with formaldehyde in a batch of the adhesive used here in the US. It looks like Hollywood loves the look but I'm less enthusiastic about it.

Has anyone in the Beauty Brain community ever had it done or known someone who did?
  • Beauty Snob Tina wrote about her experience with lash extensions, and it wasn't good. Basically the weight caused her real lashes to fall off, and she was left with bald patches on her lash line.

It does look fantastic though. I stopped a girl in front of the Honda Stadium before Beyonce's concert to ask her what mascara she used, cuz her lashes were fantastic! Turns out she had extensions on. Soo.. it's a price to pay for beauty!
  • i don't know what it takes to put on and maintain eyelash extensions, but i imagine it's a lot. so, in my reasoning, with all that trouble, why not go with something wild? i've seen extensions that were nearly three inches long, and ones with rainbow glitter. the glitter might be bad for the eyes, though.
  • A salon near me advertises them for $60, which is a fraction of what I've seen them advertised for elsewhere. I'm always tempted to call and ask exactly what you're getting for your $60; not much I would imagine. I'd be more inclined to get myself so funky, dramatic false eyelashes and play around with them. It would fun to try something wild and them take them off the next day. I already get enough grief at work for the high heels and purple and blue nailpolish.
  • PurpleRules: I like your bold sense of style! You go, girl!!!
  • If anyone wants to know the details, here's a really great article (and picture!):

    Eyelash Extensions
  • Well girls, I have lash extensions. The type my spa uses is Novalash. They are natural looking and the adhesive doesn't contain anything bad. I love them! Most times I don't even have to use mascara. You have to be gentle when washing your face not to rub your eyelids and use a q-tip with make-up remover to take off your eyeliner but its not a big deal for me. I even use the oil cleansing method to wash my face...(I'm careful around my eyes) I get a touch up every 3 weeks....I like how they look. I got two different sizes the regular and medium length so they are natural looking...considering I used to have to curl my lashes and use a ton of mascara to achieve the look I have now without having to do that I am glad I chose novalash. It cost me $195 initially, and $40 every 3 weeks for touch-ups....The only inconvenience is the fact that I have to block out 2 hours for the appointment. It does take a long time tor them to be applied.
