Dove Pro Age products
  • It's been literally years since I actually paid any attention to store brand soaps and shampoo/conditioners in my local grocery stores. I've been using things less irritating to my skin, hair and scalp. Mostly Shikai shampoo and shower gel.

My first thought was, "Holy crap these are expensive!". Eight bucks for 16 ounces of shower gel? What a racket!

And then, oooo, look at the happy, shiny, sexy packaging. :p Someone has been working overtime on repackaging the same formulas as "new". But it all comes down to ingredients after all, doesn't it? And I actually read a lot of them-shampoos, conditioners, and shower gels. Except for a few "exotic" ingredients recently added to some products, they seemed the same to me. Water, detergents, silicones, etc.

I've been hearing that Dove has become a very good drugstore skin care and hair care line. I've also read about their new Pro Age line. I know it's geared towards us menopausal gals, but I have my doubts as to it making us look half our ages again. And the ingrediants in the shampoo were pretty basic-I don't see where it helps with thinning hair that much. I read some online reviews and one woman was thrilled with the neck serum that she used everday. Maybe it's me, but if I use lotion on my chest and neck and wherever everyday, I get good results also. And I don't have to spend 3 times as much for a 3 times less. What is the big deal with the Pro Age line? Are they any better than regular shampoos, conditioners, and lotions?

Has anyone tried them? What's your conclusion?
  • I don't know if they are any better, but I did randomly buy the pro-age deodorant (I have severe deodorant buying issues....I sometimes forget to put it on and so on my way to work I'll buy a new one. I must have 10-15 in my house and in travel bags...maybe I should leave one at work). I guess it works ok I don't know what it is really supposed to do though. I know I don't stink. And that is good.
  • I must admit I completely love Dove's Pro-Age ad campaign with "real women" so I too was curious about the line.
However it IS expensive so all I have ever used has been the cream facial cleanser which is very nice. However it must not be selling well because I found my second tube at the clearance aisle at Target for $4.98!! No complaints from me!
  • That's a LOT of deodorant Cate! :p Maybe I should go on the Dove sight and read about the Pro Age line. Because an age-specific deodorant is just really odd to me. I've heard of people "aging" a woman by looking at her hands, but never by her armpits!

I think you're right, Judy. I don't think it's selling well because I see markdowns all over also. Any deal is a good deal :) And I love a good deal at Target.
  • Amen to the compliments on the ad campaign Judy. As the mother of a 16 year old girl who at 5'1" and 100 pounds thinks she looks "fat" and as an advertising profesional I applaud the strategy to use real women with lumps, bumps and gray hair to sell beauty products. It sends a positive message that it's okay and beautiful to "be yourself". Frankly I think the strategy was a stroke of genius because all of a sudden, us normal looking gals can relate to the advertising. I'm no dummy. I know that at 47 years of age with a butt the size of Texas, it doesn't matter what cosmetics, lotions or potions I use, I'm not going to look like Cindy Crawford or Giselle whats her name...ever.

Ogilvy and Mather has done an outstanding job reaching their target audience with a message that is real and resonates. If you've ever seen the "evolution" film they did for Dove, it's an eye opener. With this much marketing genius behind the brand, I hope the Dove products live up to their reputation.

Braniacs....what's the word on the quality of these products?
  • Scatter Brain: If you love the Dove Pro-Age campaign, then definitely take a look at Cate's recent new thread about Vaseline's new one for skin. It's really great, too!
  • I'm just amused by the contrast of anti-aging and Pro-age. Does that mean Dove is against anti-aging??

    PS: I love Scatterbrain's avatar!
  • Oh, wow! It's a brain with feet!
  • Here's a link to Dove's evolution video on youtube. I love this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFPGa0pKyTg
  • I'm so glad Dove made that video to prove everything is all smoke and mirrors It's one thing to tell your daughter that models spend an average time of 5 hours in the chair, then have their image Photoshopped. But for them to see it is quite another.

    "against anti-aging??" Now I'm just confused... :p
