Click on "Product Reviews" if you want to read make-up reviews by the site's users. There's a zillion! It's interesting how what one person loves, another person hates. It makes me wonder how valuable other people's opinions are for make-up items if the responses can be so extreme. Maybe that's because our preferences are tied in to the specifics about ourselves so they don't necessarily match other people's?
"MUA Swap" is a little weird, in my book. It's a page where you post about a make-up product you'd like to trade with someone for something else. I think people expect new or lightly used items. Some people talk about cleaning their lightly used products (whatever that means) but the concept still bothers me.
Anyone else ever use this website? Has anyone ever done a make-up swap?
I use the website. I read the reviews and occasionally post a review of a product that I particularly like or dislike. It gets a little wierd sometimes because people review colors so there might be dozens of reviews on a product and none of them will give you any meaningful information. The boards can be useful but people post all sorts of bizarre stuff there, which isn't a problem in and of itself but if you've posted a question it's likely to get pushed off the first page really fast when the boards are really busy and you'll get no responses. I don't know exactly how the swapping works; it's seems iffy to me so I've never bothered to figure it out. I'd say there's some useful information there but you've got to be prepared to dig for it.
I only just started visiting MUA. There are LOTS AND LOTS of reviews on LOTSA products but I like that you can narrow down the reviews by age bracket and other search criteria.
I wouldn't be swapping make-up and I haven't looked at their boards. Big boards/groups always seem to attract some odd people and people promoting products which I hate. That's what I like about BB Forum...it has GOOD people who stick to the topics so that it stays both fun and informative.
I tried swapping before, and I don't think I'll do it again. Basically I put up a swap for a brand new, never before-opened container of Zia's Acne mask. I got a reply quickly from a girl, so I looked at what she had up to swap, and asked for a blush and eyeliner that's worth about $10, which is what the mask was worth.
I sent her the package in a BOX so that she would receive the package in good conditions.
She sent me the blush and eyeliner in a paper envelope. No padding, nothing. The make up was too heavy for the paper envelope and it ripped the envelope, so everything inside came falling out.
I received an empty ripped envelope in a clear plastic bag from USPS.
I e-mailed her back.. no response for the longest time.
I FINALLY got a return back about 1.5 weeks ago. I sent her my package before 4th of July.
I've never traded anything from anyone on MUA, but I do frequent the site to get the reviews. I think it's a handy tool and a good resource to hear other people's thoughts on products.
