What beauty product do you want that doesn't exist yet?
  • We see thousands of new new cosmetic and personal care products coming out every year, but they all start to seem the same. Are there any products out there that don't exist but should? Is there anything left for cosmetic chemists to make anymore?
  • I want a safe alternative to tanning in pill form and something that will speed up hair growth on the scalp.
  • Sunscreen in pill form. How nice it would be to not have to cover yourself in lotion and then spend the rest of the day worrying about whether you need to reapply. And how nice it would be to not have to fight with my kids every morning in the summer about covering them in lotion and then spend the rest of the day knowing that they're not going to reapply it.

Also, a safe, effective, not-too-painful, not-too-expensive and really, truly permanent method of hair removal. One that gets rid of all the hair in the target area, forever.

My other dream products aren't really new; they're just vastly improved versions of what's already out there -- the perfect sheer lipstick that moisterizes and stays on all day, hair color that doesn't fade, face creams that really do eliminate fine lines and age spots -- you know, nothing too outragous.
  • ooooo.. yeah PR... I'd love a truly permanent hair remover.
  • [raises hand with a loud Horshack...]

Oooo! Oooo! Oooo! Yeah, yeah! Permanent hair removal!

From down in the salt mines too, if you know what I'm sayin...

Purple, a sunscreen pill sounds interesting. For some reason I'm thinking of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Violet ate the blueberry gum and blew up and turned blue. In this case she'd turn orange-like a huge Oompa Loompa.
  • I'm on board with permanent hair removal.

I'd also really just like my nails to really be dried instantly after I paint them. Those sprays are crap on my nails.

And a way to instantly repair split ends with out choppinng them off!
  • Oh...this is TOO EASY...a wrinkle cream that WORKED. I believe it would be called the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!
  • I like the permanent hair removal idea but you don't want to accidentally put it on your head, eh?
  • We'd all be careful... we promise. Please, please, please can we have it?

TailFeather, only the generic version will turn you orange; the real one turns you a lovely shade of bronze or whatever the perfect shade of "tan" is for you.

Cate, they're not instantaneous but Poshe and Seche Vite top coats both work really well. You can use your hands in about 5 minutes. I've gone to bed 1/2 hour after applying and not gotten sheet marks.

This isn't necessarily a single product per se but wouldn't it be great if you could change your polish as easily as your lip gloss?
  • i'm not one for beauty products and fashions, really .. but if there's one thing to pick from, was a more instant and thorough blemish remover. i know my blackheads are my fault because i rarely wash my face more than once a week, but all the washing won't get rid of the black heads covering my nose and cheekbones. i'd like some kind of wipe that'll actually clean out all the pores and blackheads in one swipe. i mean, a visuable removal.
  • Sariel--blackhead removal is key. Mine are my own fault too. I don't wash my face often enough. I feel like I break out less when I don't wash it. Mine are clustered on my chin...very irritating.

PurpleRules--I'll check out those top coats. Thanks.
  • :shocked:Oooh... definitely something that actually works to remove acne scars short of super-expensive professional treatments! and the hair removal thing would be awesome. Oh, and something to really make my thicker. Speaking of that, I don't think I'm experiencing hair loss, it's just naturally thin; so would Rogaine actually make my hair thicker if I used it?

I use an oil to dry my nails. I like the one from Bath and Body Works' True Blue line. It's great, you just use the dropper and drop 1 drop on each nail. Dries pretty quickly.

The tanning pill would be my ultimate dream. I heard they actually started developing it a year ago or so, but that it would be in trials forever. I try so hard to avoid tanning. I avoided the sun and used self-tanner for 3 years, but now recently started working in a tanning salon  I know it's so bad, but it feels/looks so good! I haven't tanned in a month, though, so I'm doing well at avoiding it even though I'm there staring at beds I can use for free 3 days a week.
  • Pas, can't you get spray tan for free too?
  • I don't wash my face much either. On average a couple times a week unless really dirty. I think it's better for my skin to leave natural oils there. Which I'm sure would be disastrous for some people to do.

I really could not afford Clearasil, so I used to treat teenage acne that would appear on my chin area and taunt me with ground plain aspirin(not tylenol, advil or anything with caffeine). Then add a tiny bit of water to make a paste. Then put that on the acne and let it sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse or wipe off. I'd lie down so it wouldn't fall of. Always worked for me. Didn't get rid of them right away, but the next day they were almost completely gone.

Sariel, the only thing I'll use to remove crap from my pores is bentonite clay.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It's awesome. When I got bit by a spider my husband found it to suck out the poison. Sucked the poison out and fortunately all I've got from that horrible experience is a small scar on my face. After that I mixed it with some apple cider vinegar to make a paste for my face. WOW, just WOW. Feels incredible-I can actually feel all the crap being sucked out and my face it so smoooooth.

You can get it at health food stores and some grocery stores. One jar lasts me years. It's really important that you never use metal utensils to mix with because the metal reacts with the clay. Only glass, plastic, or wood. And neer leave it on more than 20 minutes.

Now back to our regularly scheduled plea for permanent hair removal... :p
  • LOL...that's what I was thinking, Purple, that the generic version of the sunscreen pill would turn you into a Great Pumpkin. :p
  • A product that gets rid of blackheads and tightens up enlarged pores would be awesome. Actually, I'd even take a product that simply has a higher concentration of BHA. I use a 2% lotion now, and it certainly helps, but it's not enough for the blackhead-village on my nose. I think I just need something stronger, like 3 or 4%, but so far, no dice.

The other thing that would be wonderful would be a cellulite reduction cream that actually works! Ahhh, a girl can dream....
  • I actually don't like the look of the spray tan; If I were to do that, I would just use my old neutrogena self tanner. They both use DHA, so it's essentially the same thing. And with the neutrogena lotion I can put it on a bit more carefully than the spray tan goes on. I also don't like how the spray tan uses a bronzer for immediate effect. It turns everything orange! And you can't get wet for 6 hours. With the neutrogena lotion you only have to wait 1 hour.
  • I wish there were more stains for cheeks and lips like Benetint. They look so natural and really last.

Edit: I also wish there was an alternative to Visine that would reduce bloodshot eyes without the problems associated with its long-term use. IMHO, starting with bright clear eyes is "a must" for creating beautiful eyes with make-up!
  • I love the way Cover Girl Out Last stays on my lips from 6 am to 10 pm, then comes off easily with Vaseline. I want eye color & eye liner that do that same thing. Give it about 30-60 seconds of play for blending, then it stays put until I remove it instead of fading away by 5 or coming off on my fingers if I forget and rub my eyes.

BTW, if you do come up with that permanent hair removal, make sure it's not a cream or lotion. My 3 kids and 3 godkids mistook a bottle of Nair for sunscreen when they were 4-8, and we had 6 little kids with no eye brows or body hair. (Luckily no one got any in their eyes.)

Sariel and cate: have you tried BHA for your blackheads? I had a couple of horribly enlarged pores on my nose from when I was a teen. No matter how clean I kept my skin, they were constantly collecting oil and dirt and forming blackheads (and getting more enlarged) well into my late 30s. Then I read that BHA is oil-soluble and can penetrate and help clear out the gunk in the pores, so I started using it. It wasn't an instant fix but over the course of several months my pores got clean, stayed clean, and eventually shrank back to normal size.
  • Mactans--thanks for the tip. :)
  • Hey Mactans, there is an eyeliner that will stay on! I posted somewhere else on this site about it. I'm going to copy and paste it here:

Try Liquidlast liner by MAC; that stuff is crazy. I found it by accident on a recent trip to MAC. I was trying all sorts of things on the back of my hand and when I was done, I used some makeup remover to take off all the stuff I tried. Well, everything came off... except the Liquidlast. Since all the salesgirls were busy, I figured I'd just try the sanitation alcohol they have out to get it off, thinking that of course alcohol will take it off... didn't budge. When I got a sales girl to help me, she said it needed to be removed with an oil-based makeup remover and, sure enough, it came right off. I was amazed and bought it immediately. When I got home, I decided to give it a real test and tried rubbing it, rubbing it under water, hand soap, dish soap, face soap and it stayed put. I bought Neutrogena eye makeup remover to take it off. Even though that remover is actually oil-free, it has an oily consistency and the eyeliner swiped right off. It's definitely not for beginners, though, because it's harder to fix if you screw up and it doesn't really have the best consistency. It's very thick and gooey, which makes it hard to apply, especially with the brush that comes with it (it's in a tube with a brush in the cap). I haven't tried it yet, but I think next time I'll use a thinner, clean brush. It might just be gooey because the brush is so saturated with liner from being in the tube.

As for eyeshadow, try the primer by Urban Decay under your shadow. It's seriously amazing. Your shadow will stay put and not crease. I have oily skin and this stuff makes my eyeshadow stay put allllllllll day long. Look up reviews of it; people love it because it works so well!
  • pas71: Thanx! I think you just gave me my next makeup shopping list. I'll definitely go play at the MAC counter.
  • PurpleRules--love love LOVE the Poshe nail polish quick dry top coat. Oh my goodness! I just painted my nails with 6 football minutes left in the first half in the USC--Notre Dame game. There is still 1:21 and my nails are ready to go! THANK YOU!

P.S. They are pink to match my hair. I have to edit the costume. I think I look a bit Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman only with pink hair and not blonde!:shamed:
  • I hate having so many steps in the morning when prepping my face. I hate putting a layer on suncreen, then mattifying gel, and then foundation. I have to wait for each previous layer to dry and it is just time consuming. So I would absolutely LOVE a product that contained all three in one. Something that provided exceptional sunscreen protection, highly effective oil control, and a beautiful tinting mositurizer to even skin tone. How wonderful would it be to replace several steps with just one product!

I'd also love a cure for acne. I would cry of happiness. I would prefer it in a pill form so that I wouldn't have to add another step in my facial routine :)
  • hello darkeyes!

You might want to go back to the thread called "Tell Us Your Latest Makeup Purchase" and look what I posted near the bottom of page 1 regarding Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Enhancer Tinted Moisturizer. It is three products combined into one: a tinted moisturizer, a retinol, and a sunscreen. I really like it and it won't break the bank either as far as price.

Also, taiwanesegurl has shared her success using a product called Salonpas for acne. It's not actually packaged as an acne remedy so you have to hunt for it in the aisle where topical muscle & ligament ache products are kept. I just bought a package myself on Sunday and was amazed at how rapidly it worked. (And thanks, Gloria! Found it!)
  • PurpleRules--I still love the Poshe! I used it last night last minute for the 7 y/o girl. She went as Hannah Montana for Halloween and really wanted nails. She of course wanted painted nails 5 minutes before dinner. SO, I pulled out the Poshe and top coated her nails....awesooome~!

I also did her hair and it took me like 40 minutes to straighten it. She has perfect Hannah Montana hair---naturally blonde with the most amazing highlights---all natural. She has a slight wave to her hair so used her mom's flat iron and she looked great! It was fun getting her all ready! I was happy that she asked me.

Karen--I'm def going to have to get salonpas now. I had heard about it on ESPN Radio a few years back...Dan Patrick was a spokes person for it...who would have known it would be good for acne! Awesome!
  • Hair Treatment that truly repairs damage hair and Permanent hair dye that causes no damage to hair and also anti-aging moisturiser that you can see the results in hours and very noticeable improvement to the skin.
  • I would like all makeup to be like Liquidlast! You put it on, and it stays on until you use makeup remover. Just think, you could wash your face, sleep in it, and just remove it when you want a different look. You would never have to be without make again! The ultimate lazy women's makeup!

I would also like a pill that would permanently put color back in your hair. No more grays!
  • Anne:  The no more grays thing would be great!  Apparently my old job was more stressful than I originally thought because now I am graying on my temples.  I just had my hair colored and within 3 weeks those darn grays were back
  • Cate..Thats why I color my hair at home. I can't afford to go in every 4-5 weeks to get it colored.
  • Well, I used to only spend money on my hair...it is my pride and joy, but now I'm really into make-up too and so now I just save save save for my hair ;)
  • All I want is a mascara that doesn't dull my eyelashes. How hard can this be? (Apparently, it's totally and completely impossible, otherwise, we wouldn't have a couple hundred eyelash-dulling mascaras to choose from.) I *think* Thierry Mugler's new mascara might keep eyelashes shiny, but at $57, I'll not be experimenting with it to find out.
