What differentiates a toner from a similar product?

As far as ingredients go, that is.

To me these products look similar enough to both be toners.

Toner: Water, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf, Quercus Alba (White Oak) Bark Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Alcohol Denat., Rosa Damascena (Rose) Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Maltodextrin, Glycerin, Sodium Gluconate, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben

Lotion/Essence: water, glycerin, chlorella vulgaris extract, sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA, caffeine, hydrolyzed algin, sea salt, salicylic acid, rosa damascena (rose) flower oil, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower oil, eucalyptus oil, decyl glucoside, citric acid, fragrance (essential oil blend), citronellol, geraniol, sodium citrate, sodium phytate, phenoxyethanol

  • It's hard to tell just from the ingredients but here's what I think:
The toner won't do much of anything.

The Lotion/Essence does have glycerin, NAHA and sodium PCA which may provide some moisturization if there's there's enough in the product. It also contains sal acid so it MAY help with exfoliation or acne IF there's another there.
  • yeah.... this brand maintains, definitely doesn't change the skin unless your baseline is terrible. ;)
