Besides Cleure, I cannot find any lines or products that fall into this category. Thanks so much. So many products contain salicylates, BHA, BHT, benzoates and are loaded with fragrance and botanical extracts.
Hi Kevin. I can’t speak for the rest of the Forum but I’m a little confused by your question. Sal acid is typically only used in acne or exfoliating products. Other salicylates include some sunscreens and the active ingredient in muscle pain creams. But most “regular” skin products do NOT contain salicylates. Am I missing something?
In doing a lot of reading and research online, it seems many other ingredients have a high salicylate content, especially plant ingredients and fragrances.
Yes, Benzyl Salicylate is a common fragrance allergen. I’ve never heard of “plant ingredients” in general containing a lot of salicylates.
If you read the ingredient list you’ll see any salicylates that are added to the formula. Benzyl salicylate will also be listed as a fragrance allergen.
The link you provided is not a very good source of information as it appears to have several inaccuracies.
Yes, willow bark is a natural source of sal acid. It’s typically not used at high enough levels to be effective but it could cause problems if you have a skin sensitivity to salicylates. That’s a great point, your “you know what” knows what it’s talking about.
