December 12, 2016 at 9:51 pm #92675JennMemberHi. I’m so glad I found your podcast! I love it! I have a question about using baby products instead of adult products. I’ve always had sensitive skin. When I was a teenager I discovered that I could sometimes use baby products and then I wouldn’t break out or get a rash. Since then, I often default to buying the baby product just because there’s a lesser chance of me getting a rash. Is this OK? Am I doing any damage to my hair or skin by not using the adult version? What am I missing (if anything) by not using the adult version? For example, I can use Cetaphil baby lotion, but I have issues and get a rash when I use Cetaphil moisturizing lotion. Or, I can use Aveeno Baby Shampoo, but adult shampoos sometimes cause issues.Thank you!Cetaphil baby lotion Ingredients: Water, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sorbitol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Octyldodecanol, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Hexyldecanol, Hexyldecyl Laurate, Panthenol, Caprylyl Glycol, Carbomer, Fragrance, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Hydroxide, Dipropylene Glycol, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Squalane, Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Heliotropine, TocopherolCetaphil Moisturizing lotion (Adults): Water, glycerin, hydrogenated polyisobutene, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, Macadamia integrifolia seed oil (macadamia nut oil), dimethicone, tocopheryl acetate, stearoxytrimethylsilane, stearyl alcohol, panthenol, farnesol, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, sodium hydroxide, citric acid.Aveeno baby shampoo: Water, cocamidopropyl betaine, glycerin, sodium lauroamphoacetate, coco-glucoside, sodium chloride, hydroxypropyl starch phosphate, citric acid, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, glyceryl oleate, sodium benzoate, styrene/acrylates copolymer, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, polyquaternium-7, sodium hydroxide, avena sativa (oat) kernel flour.December 13, 2016 at 5:16 pm #96807RandySMember
You’re certainly not harming yourself by using baby products instead of the adult version. Baby products tend to use milder surfactants so they they not clean heavily soiled hair as well. (Styling buildup could be a problem.) The baby lotion you cited doesn’t contain dimethicone like the adult version does so it may not be as good of a skin protectant. But if you like the way these products leave your skin rash-free there’s certainly no problem using them!
