Hi there, so this is my first time asking a question. Well, I have been reading your past posts where you recommended TRESemmé split remedy conditioner for the polyelectrolyte complex. I wanted to buy it, so I searched for it locally here in Perú and I found it in a supermarket a bit pricey. The formula is a bit different than the one I found in walgreens:
Water , Cety Alcohol , Amodimethicone , Cyclopentasiloxane , Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine , Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride , Hydrolyzed Keratin , Tocopheryl Acetate , Panthenol , Ascorbic Acid , Niacinamide , Biotin , Polyquaternium 28 , Polyquaternium 37 , Cyclohexasiloxane , Glycerin , Dimethicone , Aspartic Acid , Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride , Hydroxyethylcellulose , Propylene Glycol , Dicaprylate/Dicaprate , Cetearyl Alcohol , Acrylamidopropyltrimonium Chloride/Acrylamide Copolymer , PVM/MA Copolymer , PPG 1 Trideceth 6 , Disodium EDTA , Polysorbate 20 , DMDM Hydantoin , Fragrance
The formula in Perú:
Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Parfum, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Lactic Acid, Amodimethicone, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Polyquaternium-28, PVM/MA Copolymer, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl salycilate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl cinnamal, Linalool, Sodium chloride.
So my question is: Is this formula the same? Do this changes can impact how the formula feels or how it works?

Hi Kitty. The Peru formula that you listed above is definitely NOT the same as the Walgreen’s version of Split Remedy.
Both formulas contain the polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) ingredients but the conditioning agents and some of the emulsifiers are different so I would expect the two formulas would not feel the same way. It’s difficult to tell if the Peru version will work as well, however. The PECs have to have the correct size (about 5 microns) to work properly and there’s no way to tell just by looking at the ingredients if the particle size is correct or not.If you can get the one from Walgreens (and if it’s cheaper) I suggest you try that one first. actually in Perú is more expensive, and I can’t buy the walgreens one because shipping. Although this formula feels nice and I was thinking about buying the leave-in conditioner but I listened to your podcast where it’s stated that leave-in and regular conditioners are almost the same. So I looked at the ingredients at the leave-in and it was a different formula as well. Could it be better? Again thanks for the answer I’m a big fan I think you might have misunderstood our point about conditioners – we said that many deep conditioners and rinse out conditioners are the same. Leave in conditioners do use different ingredients because they don’t have to stick to your hair after rinsing.
If you have a specific product you’d like me to look at, just post the ingredients and I’ll let you know what I think.My mistake, I thought they were the same! (In spanish they call deep conditioner “tratamiento” ) I would call it lost in translation. Anyway I got this leave-in Infusium 23 Leave-In Treatment 3 Frizz Controller, and this are the ingredients:
Aqua, Amodimethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Panthenol, Cetrimonium Chloride, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Polyquaternium 11, Citric Acid, Betaine, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Trideceth-12, PPG-2 Methyl Ether, Serine, Glycine, Glutamic Acid, Arginine, Threonine, Lysine, Alanine, Proline, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-8/SMDI Copolymer, Behenic Acid, Palmitoyl Myristyl Serinate, Oleic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Stearic Acid, Arachidic Acid, PEG-8, Polysorbate 80, Aminomethyl Propanol, Parfum, Sodium PCA, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA.No problemo, Kitty. But we’re still losing something in translation. What is it that you would like to know about this Infusium formula? Are you asking if it’s the same as the Tresemme products you listed above? If that’s the question, the answer is no. This formula is very different.
It contains good conditioning and anti-static ingredients but it won’t mend split ends like the Tresemme products.
