    Does arbutin turn into hydroquinone when applied topically? I heard it could in alkaline conditions but isn’t the skin slightly acidic?

    Arbutus does bio-convert to hydroquinone but I’m sure of the conditions required for the conversion. This site has some details: http://www.kaviskin.com/info/a-arbutin.html

    But I don’t know how reliable they are.
