This is an ingredient used in a lot of cosmetic formulations ( example: Avon’s Anew Clinical Infinite Lift Targeted Contouring Serum … listed as the 14th ingredient ). According to Avon’s Product Information it is ” shell fish derived ” .
In researching GLUCOSAMINE HCL, I found it is ( an amino sugar) extracted from the shell of crabs, lobster and shrimp and, also, as a non-animal, non-shellfish derived product. Since the Clinical Infinite Lift Serum contains the shell fish derived form and does not carry a warning on the label, does this mean that this product (topically applied and not ingested ), would not be a problem for those with shell fish allergies ??
June 1, 2014 at 5:42 pm #94202RandySMemberI’m sorry but we can’t answer this because we don’t know for sure and we don’t want to give anyone information that could lead to them having an allergic reaction. The Safety/Regulatory department at Avon should be able to give you a definitive answer because they know the source of their raw materials.
Good luck and write back and let us know what you find out!June 3, 2014 at 2:49 pm #94210FK1221MemberHi Randy ~~ This is the email I received from Avon:
” Our documents indicate that the Anew Clinical Infinite Lift Targeted
Contouring Serum is shellfish derived.
Avon complies with all FDA regulations regarding labeling. If a warning was needed, it would be on the label.Additionally, if
you have an allergy to shellfish, I would recommend that you consult
with your doctor before using this product.Avon always suggests
consulting a physician or dermatologist before using our skincare
products when any of the following applies:– Taking a prescription medication
– Has a
dermatological problem
– Has an existing medical condition
– Is
pregnant or nursingPlease be assured that all our ingredients
meet the highest quality standards. By combining existing scientific
studies with our own rigorous testing, we can attest to their purity
and safety. “There is ” no warning ” listed on the label. I don’t know if those who are allergic to ” shellfish ” would be aware of the ingredient “ GLUCOSAMINE HCL ” in cosmetic formulations to even consult with their doctor.
