    Hi Brains 

    Please can you explain why Hydrolyzed Keratin is added to hair conditioners, what is the function of this ingredient? 

    Ingredients:

    Deionized Water, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Cottonseed Oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Balsam of Peru Essential Oil, Olive Oil, Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A) (Vitamin A), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E) (Vitamin E), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Barley Grass (Hordium Vulgare) Extract, Stearalkonium Chloride (Fiber base content), Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Octyl Dimethyl PABA, PEG 100 Stearate, Sodium Caseinate (Milk), Sodium Hydroxide, Corn Oil, Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Gel (Certified Organic), Citric Acid, Organic Essential Oil, Caramel, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Botanical Fragrance.

    It’s primarily added as marketing ingredient. Hydrolyzed keratin is broken up into such tiny bits that it really doesn’t do much for hair especially in a rinse off product. 

    If it’s chemically modified it can stick to hair through rinsing. Some proteins can form a film on hair that provides some benefit.
