Is blow drying hair only on the cold setting damaging for the hair? I know there will be water damage from just wetting the hair, and mechanical damage from using a brush and creating tension, but what about air damage?
High heat can be more damaging than cool air. But the catch is that there is data showing that even allowing hair to dry at room temperature can be damaging because the hair remains wet longer.
I’ve never seen a study testing these exact conditions but it makes sense that using the cool setting will prevent damage from over heating while still drying quick enough to prevent damage from prolonged moisture exposure.
Like they say, all things in moderation.
