My guilty pleasure is a nice hot shower. I live in Canada and its a nice respite from the cold. Is it fine as long as I use moisturizers after and don’t burn myself? There are many articles online about the supposed health benefits of cold showers but I am skeptical. I actually find when the water is cool or cold its harder to get my hair clean.

January 22, 2014 at 8:33 am #93213TreeMemberI have varicose veins so I always finish my shower with cold water (saw that recommendation while visiting the doctor). But I never use cold shower for my hair! It’s too painful. I like cold water in the morning, it makes me feel fresh but I haven’t seen any benefits to my skin from it and I’ve been doing it for 10 years at least.

If you’d like
to reduce the appearance of acne, cold showers could do the job. Hot
water dries out your skin, while cold water tightens your cuticles and
pores, preventing them from getting clogged. You can also use cold
showers for shinier, more attractive hair that your partner can’t resist
playing with. Cold water will close your cuticle, making it less likely
dirt can accumulate in your scalp”http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/surprising-benefits-cold-showers.html

It is a pretty common thing to have water heating even for the poor in the developed world and sensitive people could go into shock I think, especially in cold climates. Cold air on cold water is not pleasant it makes the air feel even colder. Kind of feels condescending how the author wrote it but whatever. Tip to authors don’t write as if your audience is stupid.
January 23, 2014 at 2:02 pm #93229rozyisbackMemberI asked Futurederm on their facebook page and this is what they said.
“That’s
actually not true. Both can actually be good for your skin, provided
you’re not using extreme temperatures on either end.
Warm
water can be good for your skin (make sure it’s not scalding hot!)
because it softens your skin and improves blood flow, which allows for
easier exfoliation and permeability of ingredients. Cold water is
especially good if you have oily skin, as it helps your pores to produce
less oil.”And linked me to this- http://www.futurederm.com/2013/09/30/home-remedy-trick-or-treat-using-hot-or-cold-temperature-to-change-the-size-of-your-pores
