I remember following the crazy Kylie Jenner lip challenge, which seemed like a bad idea out of the gate. And of course, it was followed by hundreds of Instagram posts about why you shouldn’t do it, complemented by healthcare professionals explaining that it was extremely damaging to your lips and the muscles and skin around your lips.
So what’s the deal, then, with Liptiful and Fullips? Liptiful seems to have rave reviews everywhere it’s sold – Amazon and Etsy in particular have nearly 5 starts each. They also claim (and of course their claims must not mean much since they’re just selling on Etsy) that you can “train” your lips with this device. It seems to me, however, that this is just a more moderate version of the kind of damage suffered in the Kylie Jenner lip challenge.
It seems to me that these products just give a temporary plumping effect based on hydraulic pressure. When you make the sucking motion it creates a vacuum which pulls fluid into your lips. After a while the fluid gets reabsorbed into the tissues and the lips go back to normal. That’s why you have to repeat it every day.
