I wonder if you guys know what is the technology behind Makeup Eraser – that towel that promises to remove makeup only by soaking it in warm water and rubbing in the face? Is it true and how can a simple watered towel be as efficient as a regular remover?I contacted the company and asked about the Makeup Eraser Towel. I was told by a representative that “The cloth is a proprietary blend of 100% polyester. The fibers are so fine that they pull makeup away from the face.” This makes sense because any type of cloth will remove makeup to some extent.
How can it be as efficient as a regular remover? The company doesn’t say that it is, as far as I can tell. When I specifically asked how the cloth compares to conventional cleansers they said that “it’s reusable. Throw it in the wash and no stains remain. The MakeUp Eraser will last up to 1,000 washes and eliminates the need to buy disposable product to remove your makeup.”So if this convenience appeals to you it may be worth a try.What I don’t get is the simplicity of it really. I mean, we see a lot of products, a lot of search for the best makeup removers, not to mention the asian double cleasing thing and to find out that you are able to actually get it from a simple warm cloth? What happens to all the chemicals and stuff that need oil or soap to be removed? Also, if it is so simple, effective and chemical free, why people that are into natural, organic products still struggles and pay a lot of money for natural makeup removers? I am astonished with a) how hasn’t anyone thought of it before and b) why hasn’t this replaced regular removers already.
Well, I haven’t tried it and I asked the company and there doesn’t seem to be any test data available but here’s what I THINK may be going on:
- A regular towel with water will remove some makeup.
- A regular towel with water and a good cleanser will remove more makeup.
- This special towel with water will remove makeup somewhere in between. However, it may save you money in the long run.
Why hasn’t it replace regular products? It probably doesn’t work as well.
If you give it a try please report back!I looked into those and learned they’re just basically microfiber towels. so they likely just “scrub” better than a terry cloth towel. I tried one and found that it irritated my sensitive skin. it was like using an finely textured exfoliating scrub twice a day. you’ll find that other reviewers will say similar things. google “microfiber face towel” and you will find products similar to the makeup eraser.
I’m all for things that make life simpler (and greener), but this product seems to be a miss.I tried Jane Iredale’s Magic Mitten and it seems to remove some makeup, but not as well as a cleanser. So, I apply cleanser and scrub it on with the mitten for a minute or so.

It seems similar to the MakeUp Eraser. I use extra virgin olive oil to take my makeup off and use this, wrung out in hot tap water, to wipe off the residue. It does work for me and has lasted a long time. I bought it at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I have never tried taking makeup off start to finish with it though. I am no help at all in answering the question “does that work?”.I can do that but it might not be so accurate an experiment for others to go by since I don’t wear a huge amount of makeup.
@ Randy – It works! I cleaned off the makeup last night using just the wonder cloth. I went back with my EVOO just to see if I would get extra product off my face. There was nothing left to remove.
The mascara is water resistant, for the record. I don’t use waterproof mascaras. Removing them pulls my eyelashes out.So, now we know!
