I’ve been trying different shampoos for my dry, highlighted hair. My roots are oily while my ends are dry. My hair is fine but I have a lot of actual strands. I’m wondering why a moisturizing shampoo might leave my hair less manageable compared to a clear, less moisturizing version? Seems like the opposite would be true.The shampoos are from the same brand, with similar ingredients. Both contain sulfate, but the moisturizing shampoo contains silicone, while the other one doesn’t.
I agree, that’s strange. Moisturizing shampoos like the one you described will typically make hair more manageable, not less. If you post the entire ingredient lists for both products I can take a closer look for you.

The main promise of this product is volume so its conditioning system is not that robust. Most of the conditioning comes from a low level of dimethicone. A touch of Polyquaternium 76 helps reduce static. Overall, I wouldn’t expect this product to give you much conditioning.
The other product is very similar (I suspect it’s either the Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo or their Ice Shine shampoo.) It doesn’t contain dimethicone or the polyquat but it does contain Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride which is a pretty good conditioning agent. Depending on how much is in the formula it wouldn’t surprise me if this product actually gives more conditioning than the first one.The bottom line is that I think you need to step up to a more robust conditioning shampoo. I know you’re worried about your oily roots but I would give one of the other Pantene products a try. The Daily Moisturize Renewal shampoo might be a good place to start.Good luck!It’s crazy how many formulas overlap with Pantene because the moisturizing shampoo I have is actually the Sleek Shampoo (according to the back of my bottle). It’s even more confusing now that Pantene is re formulating products as part of the “Dream Care” image. Ingredients don’t seem to match up on the Pantene site, which is my only complaint for the brand. I’ll look for a more moisturizing formula. Thank you as always!
