Perhaps a bit more biology-related, but I hope someone knows something anyway. In beauty articles I often read that it is really important to get enough nutrients, because if you don’t, your body will prioritise internal organs and that the skin (and hair and nails) is the very last thing that gets nutrition. How does this work?

For the most part there is no evidence that taking supplements helps hair or skin unless you’re dramatically under-nourished. (Which most people are not.) This is just a myth, or at best, an exaggeration.

We previously wrote this about the supplement Imedeen which indicates it may, sort of, work a little bit:

Thank you for your response. Your site is wonderful, I really hope you are able to restore your former blog posts. Does this go for protein as well? I often feel that I don’t eat what I should be eating all the time, and I’m especially concerned about getting enough protein. I do take vitamin pills just to make sure, but I don’t want to be taking protein supplements too.

You don’t need to take protein supplements for your hair and skin. Check with your doctor or nutritionist if you have specific concerns about what you need to eat to stay healthy. And thanks for the kind words about our website! It’s the fans like you that make this all worthwhile.
