    Hi brains!

First, I want to tell you how excited I am to have found your blog and forum. It is the perfect combination of smarts and vanity – which suits me just fine!
Next, I have been reading up on the different surfactants and have a little more understanding of sulfate-free shampoos and the hype around.
Now, I have my eye on OI Shampoo and Conditioner. They literally cost an arm and a leg, can you tell me what is justifying its high cost please (perhaps except for it being a sustainable brand)? I noticed the shampoo has a good mild surfactant. But unsure why is the conditioner so expensive too!

There’s nothing about the conditioner that would justify a high price. The shampoo is built with premium surfactants such as Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Dosodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, and Sodium Laurel Sarcosinate which increase the cost. You can find similar formulas in the L’Oreal line for much less!

I know Davines focuses a lot on green packaging as well as energy sustainability and such, which I would guess increases the costs of their products.  I know a lot of people that buy their products because they value this.  Also, I am on the board of non-profit organization where Davines is a huge donor so I know from first hand experience that they give to causes and their communities they operate in.  Just something to consider.

That’s helpful to know. Perhaps the company is not doing a very good job of communicating the reason for their high cost to their consumers. Also, I’m pretty sure L’Oreal has some “give back” programs as well.
