    Hi Beauty Brains!

I normally use Pureology Precious Oil Shampoo and Conditioner which is quite expensive.
To save money I’ve been searching for cheaper versions of these products which hopefully will work just as well.
I think I’ve found the drugstore alternatives and would like your opinion please.

Here’s the ingredients list of the Pureology products.

The drugstore alternatives I’ve found are made by L’Oreal who I believe owns Pureology?

L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise SuperSleek Smoothing and Taming Shampoo:

The shampoo looks like a reasonably close match. The smooth feel may be a bit different because the one you found uses polyquaterniums instead of guar. Still, certainly worth a try.

The conditioner is tougher because it seems to rely on a mixture of oils and a rather unusual quat: Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine.

The L’Oreal conditioner with Behentrimonium Chloride may not provide the same kind of feel.

I hope this helps and good job with your ingredient detective work!

    Thanks RandyS.

In your opinion are the Pureology and L’Oréal conditioners well formulated and would I be able to find a better alternative?

Please can you comment on this conditioner formulation:

Aqua, Stearyl Alcohol, Silicone Quaternium-26, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Hexyl Cinnamal, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Benzyl Salicylate, Lysine HCl, Linalool, Limonene, Methyl Tyrosinate HCl, Citric Acid, Histidine, Sodium Hydroxide, Magnesium Nitrate, CI 19140, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, CI 17200, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, CI 42090.

    Hi RandyS

Also, why is Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine an unusual quat? Is it something to do with the product being Vegan?

It’s unusual because it’s not used very often. I think only one company makes it.

Thanks for the reply and one final question (sorry to be a nuisance)…

Are the sulphates in the L’Oréal shampoo strong enough to remove any silicones or any other potential ingredients that may cause a build up on the hair?

Yes, they should be. Sometimes you may have to lather, rinse, repeat.
