July 31, 2014 at 9:44 pm #92000NemaMemberHi Brains,I am looking for an unscented hair dye with no ammonia or peroxide. To my surprise, I found one. But I want to check with you about the ingredients. Is this product really ammonia- and peroxide free? I know that some brands of hair color that make those claims have ingredients that transform into ammonia or peroxide when you add the water. Here are the ingredients:Permanent Haircolor #2, Ash Brown:Ingredients: Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate; m-Aminophenol Sulfate; 2-Chloro-p-Phenylenediamine Sulfate; p-Aminophenol Sulfate; p-Phenylenediamine Sulfate; Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate; Sodium Lauryl Sulfate; Sodium Perborate; Sodium Silicate; Sodium Sulfate; Xanthan GumHere are some of the claims made on the website. Another question–is this formula really a “revolutionary new product”?Introducing Color by Robert Craig, the all-new, permanent hair colorant that delivers totally gorgeous, natural-looking results without a trace of harmful ammonia, peroxide or alcohol. Now you can color hair gently and with confidence – even if your hair is permed or chemically treated – in your choice of 21 intermixable, luxurious shades plus a special Clear Color. What else makes Color by Robert Craig so different? It’s a water-activated, foaming hair colorant. Water-activated means that there is no separate chemical developer to worry about – because Color by Robert Craig mixes with tap water, nothing more. And because Color by Robert Craig is a no-mess mousse, it couldn’t be easier to use.…Color by Robert Craig is a revolutionary new product that mixes with warm tap water to deliver truly lasting color. …Hair is mostly protein, one of nature’s polymers. Through the process called polymerization, Color by Robert Craig’s rich color molecules bond inside your hair – so the color can’t wash away. Despite repeated shampooing, your new Color by Robert Craig shade will stay true. And the look is incredibly natural!
Thanks!

The catch is that these hair colors won’t lighten your hair (there’s no bleaching step.) So that means you can only add color on top of what you already have (which may be fine for some people but it won’t work for a brunette who wants to go blonde.)
I hope this helps! -
