This has 2 do with personal care products, if its off topic I will delete it but I was just wondering if washes for the vulva area are safe because almost all of them have scents. My gynecologist said use scent free cleansers down there. Are scented cleansers for this area safe?
February 23, 2014 at 9:28 am #93739RandySMemberHi Rozy. This isn’t off topic at all. Since fragrances are known to contain allergens it makes a lot of sense to avoid using scented products in sensitive areas of your body.
February 23, 2014 at 7:58 pm #93744rozyisbackMemberYeah that’s what I thought too. I find it weird how scentless intimate cleansers aren’t the default. Major brands such as Vagisil and Summers Eve do not make scent free versions, at least not that I could find at my local stores. There is this brand though though its sometimes not there. http://www.blueskin.ca/english/index.html I also find it dumb how these washes contain chamomile bc I a lot of people have ragweed allergies. http://www.blueskin.ca/english/intimate_cleansing.html
February 25, 2014 at 11:17 am #93769brainybimboMemberThat bothers me too, but then again they’re responding to consumer preference. I guess most people who feel they need an intimate cleansing product think they also need to have it scented.
February 25, 2014 at 5:25 pm #93787TreeMemberAs far as I know, you don’t really need an intimate wash, warm water will do just fine.
February 26, 2014 at 9:56 pm #93793rozyisbackMemberWhat are the brains thoughts on the formulation of that blue skin wash? @Tree I have heard different from doctors and gynos. Some say scent free gentle cleanser is fine every once in a while, some say just warm water. They all agree no scents. @brainy My theory is most of the washes are made in America and going to the doctor is expensive there so instead of going to the doctor when something smells funky they try to cover it up. I learned from the blue skin site the vulva has flora which I did not know. I knew the vagina did.
February 27, 2014 at 7:51 am #93800RandySMemberRozy: If you can post the ingredients we’ll take a look at it.
February 27, 2014 at 9:57 am #93803TreeMemberRozy, I don’t think intimate wash will do something bad, I just think it’s not necessary and it is a waste of money to buy it at all. You can do just fine without it. Just be careful not to let soap go there.
No doctor has ever told me to use intimate wash for any purpose. If you don’t feel clean enough with water only you need a real treatment, not an intimate wash.February 28, 2014 at 10:24 am #93808brainybimboMemberI agree with Tree on this one.
A lot of people have strange, unsubstantiated insecurities about their own personal smell. Usually, no one else notices. I would have to question why anyone feels they need any intimate wash.March 1, 2014 at 3:09 am #93823rozyisbackMemberWeird! The ingredients were right on this site but now I go on it asks for a username and password!
March 1, 2014 at 3:44 am #93824rozyisbackMemberOh well at least I have their email from when their site was up so I emailed them.
March 1, 2014 at 4:33 pm #93830rozyisbackMemberNow their site is back up but there is no ingredient list. I am sure they used to have one.

In fact, they’re very similar to those used in “no more tears” baby shampoos. The only minor concern I see are the preservatives because some people are sensitive to the ones used here.
March 5, 2014 at 11:12 pm #93858rozyisbackMemberProbably because people are scared of parabens.
