Hello – Would you please analyze the ingredients of Shiseido’s Full Lash Serum and comment as to whether any of these ingredients are prostaglandins or prostaglandin derivatives, or whether it contains any other ingredient that could potentially change eye color? Do you see any risk in using this product twice daily for up to 4 months, which seems to be the point of greatest result? Are there any other lash growth serums you could recommend that are proven 100% safe with regard to not changing eye color? Thank you!
Shiseido Full Lash Serum:Water (Aqua/Eau), Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Alcohol, Polyvinyl Acetate, Glycerin, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methylparaben, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Potassium Hydroxide, Arginine, Xanthan Gum, Zizyphus Jujuba Fruit Extract, Simethicone, Trisodium Edta, Tocopherol.It appears that the active ingredient is arginine. There is some information that suggests that arginine can stimulate release of nitrous oxide which in turn stimulates increased blood flow to the follicle and therefore increases hair growth. I can’t find any definitive studies which back this up although there are several patents along this line from Proctor, L’Oreal and others.
If I find out anything else, I’ll let you know.Thank you for that response, Randy. However, my number one concern here is eye color change. I have blue eyes and refuse to use Latisse for eyelash growth, due to the remote, but very real possibility, of permanent eye color change. (From their website: “LATISSE® use may cause increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent. While very infrequent, increased iris pigmentation has occurred when LATISSE® was administered.”) Two physicians I consulted both stated the risk only exists if the product gets into your eyes, but (IMHO) the odds of that happening are quite good. It’s pretty hard to get any closer to the eyeball than the lash line, and considering (Shiseido) is a liquid/gel applied twice daily for up to 4 months before achieving maximum results, it is likely that there will be some migration or just plain accidental contact with the eye over time. (The choice not to use Latisse is obviously a personal decision – others may not be concerned about the risk, but for me, it’s just not worth it. With my luck, I’d be that “one in a million!”) At any rate, the ingredient that causes this iris darkening is prostaglandin, which is why I’m trying to get a definitive chemical analysis on the Shiseido Full Lash Serum, to determine whether it contains prostaglandins (or prostaglandin derivatives). Would you be so kind as to directly address this aspect of the product? Again, thank you so much!
I understand your concern! Like I said, the active ingredient is arginine not prostaglandin. I’ve never heard of arginine causing changes in eye color but this whole thing makes me nervous because I don’t know how well studied this compound is for this application.
It may be perfectly safe but if the arginine is having some kind of drug effect there could be side effects that are not understood yet. You have to decide if getting better looking lashes is worth that risk. I wish I could tell you definitively but I can’t.Thanks so much! The sheer number of questions you have received (on an endless variety of beauty product topics) is an indication that much more disclosure should be required by the cosmetics industry. Hello, I have some personal experience I’d like to come forth and share, I feel it’s kind of relevant, and sharing is caring… right? I have deteriorated my vision pretty badly due to trying and testing a BUNCH of skin care products. Anyways the point is… If I were you, I would be like,…. alll overrrr the research, and background checking of the safety and toxicity when exposed to your eyes directly, and the skin around your eyes, not of the product it’s self, but of EACH CHEMICAL listed in the ingredients one by one. Since it’s applied on your eye lashes it’s way too close for comfort to play around, Sight is too important to risk. Believe me. I’m twenty five, and my 80 yr old grandmother can see better than I can now. I need to stress, don’t trust the product’s own clinical studies of safety, because every product I tried, I trusted their safety study. *squints to spellcheck, and sighs deeply with regret.* Best of luck! <3s Radium
