I like the effect this http://www.philipb.com/product_info.php?products_id=72 (I have a sample of it) has when combined with the tresemme mousse. The mousse gives my hair volume/hold, and this gives it this languid effect that I like.  I’m willing to shell out for the product, but I find it irritates the palm of my hand or anywhere else it touches my skin.  It isn’t like an allergic reaction, just a minor irritation.  So I wondered–oh, cosmetic chemistry gurus–if you can think of anything else with similar ingredients.

For when you have a chance…?

There are quite a few fragrance allergens in this product that could be causing the problem. The active ingredients are a mixed bag. I’ve never seen this combination anywhere else. The results may come from the unique mixture but you could look for these single ingredients in other products to see if you get a similar effect.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes – never seen this used on hair before. Could be interesting.

Behentrimonium Chloride – this is used in a lot of products.

    Quaternium-91 – another unusual one.

Cetrimonium Methosulfate – this will make your hair soft.

Polyquaternium-37 – used in a lot of mousses.

I know this isn’t much but I hope it helps. Good luck!

Thanks Randy!  The more I use it, actually, the less it bothers me (I have a generous sample, haven’t yet purchased).  It is clearly just a mild irritation (like tingling) versus actual allergy.  It really doesn’t bother me, I was just worried it would get worse.

I’m actually really enjoying the product, don’t even notice the tingling now.  It is pricey but I use very little so it will last forever (I haven’t even finished the tiny sample yet).  It has changed the way my hair behaves in a way I can’t describe (it softens the texture the firm hold mousse creates and makes it, for lack of a better word, sexy and tousled).
