I see squalane everywhere right now and I’ve tried it myself with The Ordinary’s Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane and their pure squalane oil as well. My skin feels super soft at hydrated afterwards. I know squalane can be found naturally in the skin, but what is the deal with it – does it do anything besides preventing moisture loss? Is it better than other oils, fx rose hip or evening primrose oil which (obviously) isn’t found naturally in the skin?
Squalane is different from other plant oils. It is a triterpene.
It has very good spreading properties, so it does not leave much oily residue on skin and can help to improve the distribution of other oils with poor spreading properties.
