    Hi,

I’m a new listener to the podcast. Thank you for your hard work! I recently started getting into skincare and have heard about this line called The Ordinary. It’s kind of a superstar on youtube and some beauty blogs since it launched earlier this month. The selling point for the company and this line is that skincare should be affordable and you shouldn’t have to spend lots for these key ingredients–some of which you’ve mentioned on your show. Is it possible to actually formulate an effective niacinamide, retinol or vitamin c product for these prices? Is it too good to be true?

    Thank you!

Ha, I came over to see if anyone had posted about this yet! I’m curious of a chemist POV on the line as well.

Very interesting, I’ve never heard of this brand. I’ll take a look when I get a chance but it may not be until next week.

Well niacinamide and ascorbid acid by themselves are not expensive ingredients, many other brands just have expensive products because people are willing to pay for it, although ascorbic acid and retinol is more difficult to formulate with (and thus expensive) because of its instability. There are no irritating ingredients in the products as far as I can see.
