Hi, I would like to learn how to formulate soap based cleansing foam. However, there is very limited information on this online. I heard that it is complicated and SAP value calculation is needed. Therefore I would like to ask from you how to calculate the SAP value of the cleansing foam? Is it the same method as we make soap bar?
Below is the draft of my first try in lab but it ended up no cleansing effect and no bubble was formed. I couldn’t figure out where went wrong for the formulation. Therefore, i would like to ask a favour from you.

    Phase A
    water
    EDTA
    Natrosol 250 HHR CS 0.8

    Phase B
    Myristic acid 6.00%
    Karite Butter 3.00%
    Stearic acid 5.00%
    Cetyl Alcohol 5.00%

    Phase C
NaOH 0.4 (just to make the finished product in the pH5-7 without calculating SAP Value)

    Phase D
    Preservative

In addition,I would like to ask what is the pH range for cleansing foam? Is it different from other skin care product, which is pH 5-7?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Pei. We typically don’t do formulation consulting but you can find help from other chemists at Perry’s other website: http://www.chemistscorner.com.

    Good luck!
