Hi Folks,I was trying to develop a good conditioning shampoo. I found a good formula for a conditioner and another formula for a shampoo…..They both come out nicely with a good consistency/viscosity. When I mixed the two together, the mixture instantly became runny as water. The shampoo uses Ammonium Xylene Sulfonate as a thickener, and the conditioner uses Glycerol Monostearate. Could these two chemicals be counter-acting each other??? If so, I’m thinking I could just use one of the two thickeners and leave the other out. I have been told to just add Xanthan Gum to thicken it all up…..Anyone have any thoughts on this???Thanks,
You can’t make a conditioning shampoo by mixing a “regular” shampoo with a “regular” conditioner because the positively charged smoothing agents in the conditioner will interact with the negatively charged cleansing agents in the shampoo and mess up the system.
